slow browsing on network drives
So, don't know how to exactly put this. But I am getting frustrated with slower network browsing with XYplorer.
Windows Explorer is like 3x times faster doing the job than XY is. Total Commander is about the same speed as Win Explorer - much faster.
Drive is connected via VPN (Ivanti Secure Access client)
It's even slower when I am doing some copying to or from network drive (XY custom copy). No drive is mapped.
Cache network servers ON
Assume servers available ON
Use generic icons on network locations ON
No network browsing on startup ON
Recconect mapped drives OFF
version 25.80.0300
I've tried disabling all the options and viceversa. Is there something I am missing? I feel like I've tried everything already... have this problem for ever I think, even with older versions

Re: slow browsing on network drives
What exactly is slow? Is it hanging at some point, or is the processing generally slow?

Re: slow browsing on network drives
Slow in means of browsing, viewing, opening
- it takes longer to display contents of folders
- it takes longer for files to open
*than in WinExplorer
but XYplorer remains responsive during that, if I for example hit some key like arrow down a few times in between loading the folder content, after loading it it will move the selection to appropriate item..

Re: slow browsing on network drives
You do get the same "speed" as in alternatives?
Re: slow browsing on network drives
I have both iSCSI and SMB shares I access through XYplorer, and the only time I had any problems was when I enabled the aspect ratio column and forgot about it. Basically every time I'd navigate to a bigger network drive (with thousands of pictures) it'd try to calculate the aspect ratio for all the items. That was obviously not good for the general browsing experience. To see if you enabled something that might have an impact, put this in your address bar and hit enter:
It'll spawn a vanilla xy window. See if you're getting the same issues there.

Re: slow browsing on network drives
Thanks for suggestion o7blue!
Unfortunately, it's even slower with "fresh;" instance..
With Explorer I got almost instant listing of files nad folders. With XY it's hiccuped... :/
I'm actually gradually getting frustrated with XY and its quirks. I am getting worse experience with XY in terms of performance doing network browsing and browsing usb devices like smartphones than with stock Explorer. And that's sad because in the beginning when I started using XY few years ago I totally adored it.
Of course, admin's responses does add up to it. Few posts I've made here, often I got reactions like "can't explain", 'works fine here".

Re: slow browsing on network drives
hey,
what about password protected network drives? Do you also get the same speed and responsiveness?
Where TotalCommander get instant view of a folder content, XY can get up to 5 seconds viewing it. Without any custom columns, any viewing option (list, details...). It's just slow

Re: slow browsing on network drives
Password protection has nothing to do with speed. There must be another pattern at work to explain your system's sluggishness.

Re: slow browsing on network drives
Same deal here (unfortunately). Unlike the OP - I am simply on out home network - some typical shares on a Windows Server - shares that have been there for a half dozen years.
Some days - I browse to a file or a folder on a share and click to select it - and XY goes into a spinning wheel funk for at least three seconds. Does not seem to matter the file type either. And on different machines as well.
Win Explorer is instant. No delay, no nothing. Done side by side. Tested at least a dozen times in the last 2 weeks or so.
XY has always been a bit of dog at networking but I learned to live with it - but three second gaps popping up now (especially since this should be a massively mature app by now) is maddening.
Even more curious is that the posts on this topic - just keep coming - regardless of how hard we bring this up.

Re: slow browsing on network drives
That's because that's not the experience of the majority of users. There must be some unknown factor at play.

Re: slow browsing on network drives
Or there is some crappy code at play.
Using the word "must" strongly implies all of us are at fault and there is no possible way it could be your app.
Mind you - you do tend lean on pilot error in lieu of least trying to assist - considering this has been a "thing" for years now.

Re: slow browsing on network drives
Unfortunately, I have the same experience as others Don. Compared to other file managers or Windows Explorer... xyplorer is slow, incredibly slow. I have also been an owner for several years and it just gets worse and worse. Especially lately, there's been a lot of talk about visual changes and nonsense, but the speed isn't a concern. I will easily provide access to the network in which I work to see how all other file managers open the content within max one/two seconds at most, but xyplorer within a minute or even worse. I believe that many users only use local drives or home NAS, but those who need better security and access suffer. Worst of all, when I screw up and try other file managers or the native windows explorer, I see that it suddenly goes fast. WHY?
