Shell's Extended Context Menu when shift-right-clicking on White

Post by perceuze »

Hello there,

I seem to struggle in invoking Shell's Extended Context menu when "clicking on White" and with the following settings:
  • Native context menu [Menus, Mouse, Usability - Context Menus]: FALSE
  • Hold Ctrl to invert the above selection [Menus, Mouse, Usability - Context Menus]: TRUE
  • Right-click on white in file list [Custom Event Actions]: Pop up folder's context menu
  • Show the 64-bit context menu [Shell Integration - 64-bit Windows]: TRUE
I can invoke the 64-bit shell context menu, but if I press Shift key then right-click, an XYplorer menu appears.

I am running XYplorer 25.40.0400 on a 64-bit Windows 11.

Did I miss something?

Sorry if this has been asked already, I could not find anything related specifically to this issue.

Which menu do you expect to see, and which do you get? Show screenshots if possible.

Ah, I thought it was self explanatory. Shell's extended context menu is the one that pops up when user right-clicks on an item in the Explorer while pressing Shift key. Regardless of whether you click on a file, a folder, or in the Background (called White in XYplorer terminology if I'm not mistaken), as opposed to the one that shows when not pressing Shift.

In XYplorer and with my current settings, right-clicking on White (without pressing Shift), brings Shell's context menu of the current folder, which is the expected behavior.

But if I right-click on White while pressing Shift, I would expect to see Shell's extended context menu due to settings. XYplorer does not seem to take my aforementioned settings into account and shows the following menu instead:

Thanks, just wanted to be sure. That one is not supported by XY. Neither regular nor extended. Neither 32-bit nor 64-bit.

The so-called Background context menu as opposed to Folder context menu you mean?

If that's what you meant, I would be just fine in having Shell's Folder context menu at least. Both regular and extended.

I am aware there are edge case where this substitution cannot work, but at least it would be closer to the expected behavior than it is now I believe.

EDIT: said differently, the shell context menu I'm getting without pressing Shift is fine by me and I would expect to see its extended version when I press Shift.

Exactly.

Yes, makes sense. The next beta should make it happen.
