Hey. I am still testing XY in my workflow and so far it has been cool.... I enjoy the way tabbed browsing works and stuff and i have several things i would like better BUT i have this big bug that makes XY useless to me which is sad because i thought i finaly found a way out of explorer crashes....
so i got a big problem - i have installed xy in D:/Windows/XYplorer directory, replaced the registry entries to make XY my default file manager. .. sometimes when i try to copy/ paste something XY just hangs completely - i mean you cant't even end the process in task manager - only way is to shut down the computer and if XY is hung , windows wouldn't shut itself down at all so the only way to shut down my computer is to pull the plug..
Any solutions.

Re: Important COPY BUG
First of all, note that nowhere in the official XY documentation I mention let alone recommend changing registry entries.velvet wrote:Hey. That said, some of the registry experts here in the forum will surely help you in case there went something wrong with your registry changes.
Other than that I can't imagine what could cause such severs sort of a hang.

Re: Important COPY BUG
The fact the velvet said "explorer crashes" makes me just the tiniest bit suspicious, as I can't recall ever having WE crash on me...and the fact that no one else seems to have reported this issue at the moment also ties into it...we all know there have been times when it appears that XY is failing when in fact it was some other component that is causing the interference/crash...I'm not saying this is the case here, but it's something to be investigated.admin wrote:Other than that I can't imagine what could cause such severs sort of a hang.velvet wrote:BUT i have this big bug that makes XY useless to me which is sad because i thought i finaly found a way out of explorer crashes....
Does XY hang for velvet when it's running without other auto-run app's? Basically in the closest equivalent to 'safe mode'...
Is there some particular pattern to the situation? Certain locations, etc?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

ha mate this is funny - u say u don't mention changing the registry ??? geez man so what is this then..??
i mean it is not even the documentation which is often not read by users until you get trouble, but that is a tip oft the day ....
Also the problem is not the registry modification because all i did was run the reg file posted on WIKI .... i mean you advertise wiki all the time here and in your official website and now you are telling me that you don't support whati is written there ??
I am not such a dumbass i know that it is risky to modify the registry ... and i also backed it up before i did this ... so no harm done there i can restore it at any moment.
So the problem is not the registry. I was just tryin to find out if maybe things like this have happened to anybody else and since i couldn't find anything alredy reported i decided to do that to maybe find a solution ...
I have already determined that this was caused by uneven voltage flow in USB hub that has over 4 tb external storage connected to it ... so i had to buy another HUB .... that's all
so it was like you said ... other external components were failing ... so all is good now.
@J_C_hallgren COME ON next thing you'll be tellin me that Internet explorer is the safest and the quickest internet browser out there .... we all know that in intense file managing environment explorer.exe often halts and crashes and then restarts itself ... it is a common knowledge.. if explorer is as reliable as you say, there i no need for XYplorer that basically replaces WE .. Of course XY adds a lot of other functionalities to the workflow but quite often people look for other file managers due to the fact that WE is fairly unstable and limited in it's file managing capabilities.. Which is why i use XY in the first place.
ANyway problem solved ... thanks for help
Re: Important COPY BUG
Okay, everyone calm down, it's all fine.
velvet, we don't know you, you're new here, and nobody assumed anything, in any way. There was no way to tell whether or not you were an advanced user or not, and I'm guessing simply because you mentioned the registry Don thought that it might be linked to your problems, or that you thought it was.
That and the fact that XY shouldn't hung the way you described it (and has never been reported doing so in the past) had him believe it might come from registry changes. Turns out he was wrong, can happen to anyone.
About what jc said, I'm thinking that you are talking about explorer crashing while using it as your file manager, hence why you're looking for an alternative, while jc may have thought you meant that while using XY you had crashes of explorer.
If that's the case, again, just a little misunderstanding, no need to "get mad".
We're all happy you fixed your issues, and hope you'll keep using XY, because as you said yourself, it will greatly improve your daily file management.

Maybe you wrote this entry during Carneval in Cologne, so amnesia is more than understandable.

Also, I was simply saying that in my experience, I could not recall having WE halt/crash on me, but I'm not speaking for anyone else...And even though WE has been reliable and stable for me, I use XY because of the great number of things that I can easily do with XY that I simply can't do with WE; however, I still use WE for helping diagnose problems, both with XY and users.
My main point was, as you appear to have proved, that cause came from an external cause and not XY, because if XY had such a problem, (and it has in the past on occasion), it would most likely have been noticed by some of the other forumites who visit here daily.
