Silent updates - SOLVED
Silent updates v2
Not quite sure why you locked the thread highend, you seem to get uptight a little too quickly, I wasn't having a go, I was just saying it was cryptic. You took it the wrong way, sorry for any offence it was unintentional.
All I'm trying to do is get a little help with an issue, so could you please not lock this thread or delete it.
Don, do you have any idea why I would be getting several windows appear? Is there anything I can change in the settings or a tweak that affects the update procedure?

Re: Silent updates v2
I did in the other thread and it's the same as you used, which is what's strange!
I think one of the windows is the UAC like you said, but the other 3 are XY's.
Thanks
Code: Select all
update 1 + 16 + 128;
Thanks

Re: Silent updates v2
Looks good. In my test I ran it through the address bar. Can you tried that?

Re: Silent updates v2
I don't use the address bar only breadcrumb. Is that what you specifically want me to try? I'll set it up and try, but XY is up to date at present.

Re: Silent updates v2
Just doing that now.
I did setup the toolbar and test the script. When I hit enter... nothing happened? lol I assume it's working, but silently?

Re: Silent updates v2
Ok, so, the fresh copy updated silently too, except UAC, but I understand you can't do anything with that.
Am I doing something wrong when using that script in a button or via the CEA startup?

Re: Silent updates v2
When I clicked the toolbar button using the same script, I always got that window in the screenshot you posted, oddly, now when I click it, nothing happens! I have to assume it's checking silently. No idea why it's now working correctly. Hopefully that's sorted, sorry if I wasted your time and thank you very much for your help. Apologies, again to highend, I meant no offence
Re: Silent updates v2
Sorry, one last thing...
I just checked the XY/Temp folder, it contains the latest installer. Maybe this is impractical, pointless, or some other reason for being a dumb idea... but can't you have XY check if it's a portable setup and if so download the zip package and use that as the update instead? So we wouldn't have that UAC prompt either then. Just a thought.

Re: Silent updates
A UAC prompt appears because the XY folder is inside a UAC-protected path^^
Extracting a .zip archive and copying files (instead of using an installer that does the same) into THAT folder would change WHAT?
That's a rhetorical question, DO NOT answer it...

Re: Silent updates
Thanks for the response.
Actually it's not even on the system drive, though it is set as the default file manager, so maybe that makes a difference?
I wouldn't know if it's extracted, it could be executed as a normal installer for all I know.

Re: Silent updates
Just thought I'd let you know that it's working as expected now, thank you for your help.
