Explorer-style folder view saving?

Post by rseiler »

I'm almost convinced I'm just missing it, but File Explorer automatically remembers folder sorts. So, if you're in folder A and sort by name and then go to folder B and sort by extension, those sorts are simply remembered. And no other folders are affected.

In XY, it seems that you have to define and consciously save folder views to do the same thing, otherwise what you do in A applies to B and every other folder. That's quite different. Is there any way to make it more like File Explorer for this?

It has been discussed before. E.g. here: viewtopic.php?t=25407

It's called "Google search"^^

The only way to achieve that would be: By scripting.
The unfortunate thing: The current custom event actions don't allow that
You can't reliable get the current sort order before changing locations...

I had found some earlier, but they were mor like this, which is what had me thinking that the XY feature I mentioned might be as close as it gets. But given the sheer number of features, usually every time I think that I'm wrong.

Brand new to XYplorer here.
I was looking for this setting as well and by reading your post i discovered the white and blue "F" button in the middle of the toolbar. So thanks for your posting your question.
I am more than happy with this very practical and direct method for saving individual folder views and wonder how anyone can find it 'too much to do' when literally all we gotta do is one click on a button which is already present right there (unless maybe u chose to hide the toolbar, which would be... kinda dumb imo).
I understand now why the admin is not willing to do anything to implement an automatic saving for each folder... too heavy, not relevant enough. It's just one click... c'mon. Are u setting new folder views 10 times a day or what??

No, but you may be doing that once or twice a week (or other related things, like changing columns). Each of those means two more clicks: one to remove, one to re-add. It's very easy to forget that, kind of like driving a stick shift when you're used to automatic.

It's not just one click forevermore.

Maybe a compromise: Auto-saves for views you've already created...

Wow, OK, I had been to that screen before but not recently when I had this in mind.

Is there a way to have that default to being checked for new views? It's the only thing there not checked by default.

I wasn't expecting to see a global setting within a specific entry.
