Intuitive opening of thumbnailed files...
Please add the option to open thumbnailed files with a double click of the thumbnail, instead just previewing. This would be more intuitive than having to double click on the file name to open a thumbnailed file. I suggest adding a large preview button under or next to the file name of each file for the existing preview option instead. Thanks.

Not possible: click on thumb -> Mouse Down Blow Up functionality.

That doesn't work well for large image files. And advanced users prefer to see images against a blank gray background.

For me Mouse Down Blow Up is super-cool!
Look up "Full screen preview" in the help file if you need a neutral background.

Well it's not about the 'cool' factor. It's about practicality, usability, and efficiency. WinXP already has the 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer' for fast and flexible viewing of common images types. It's much more preferred to have common images open with this default image viewer than the gimiky blow up effect currently in TrackerV3. At least make it an option for users to choose between the blow up effect or real image accessibility.admin wrote:For me Mouse Down Blow Up is super-cool!

BTW: I work with computer graphics a lot. And this lack of functionality would be a big impedenace on my workflow if I actually used TrackerV3 as my main file manager. Having to aim for the small text defeats the purpose of having clickable thumbnails in the first place.

In thumbs mode the clickable text area is as high as the thumbs themselves.TsunamiZ wrote:Having to aim for the small text ...

Yes but the horizontal clickable area is ever-changing and inconsistent. Sometimes, users have short file names that shrink the clickable area making it harder to aim. The feel of opening images then becomes irritating. For your existing blow up effect: I advise a preview button near or under the file name would be a much more intuitive approach to users [who primarily use thumbnails as the preview image and the double clicking to open in their preferred viewer]. And have the thumbnails open as they are universally preferred.admin wrote:In thumbs mode the clickable text area is as high as the thumbs themselves.TsunamiZ wrote:Having to aim for the small text ...

Re: Intuitive opening of thumbnailed files...
I generally try to meet user expectations, but sometimes I don't: either it's not possible for various reasons, or I believe I have to offer something better, something that's worth breaking a habit, or I simply like it myself and as developer-dictator I say "take it or leave it".TsunamiZ wrote:...have the thumbnails open as they are universally preferred.
Concerning the thumbnails and their functionality: I never heard any complaints in the line of yours since they are in (> 1 year), so I have to conclude most people dig it the way it is. What's more I know for sure that many users are very happy with the gimicky MDBU feature.
Now you say, "make it at least an option!" Ok, I will the moment I believe there should be an option.

Well, TrackerV3 still doesn't have a very large hardcore user base compared to other apps. Especially since this whole tabbed browsing idea is still a relatively new. And some people ARE "taking it or leaving it" without caring to post suggestions. I actually want a good tabbed file browser bad enough to help advise on their development. I'm pretty experienced when it comes to professional workflows--I know what's good and what's not quickly, and I make no hesitations in customizing the apps I use.
ExplorerXP isn't as evolved as TrackerV3 [or other tabbed file browsers], but why do you think it's listed higher on Google search results? Because users prefer that GUI interface more. That developer is adding to an existing GUI concept that is already the best standard and intuitive for people to learn right away. It is similar to most tabbed web browsers. It shows that developer's ideas are headed in the right direction--combining power with ease of use. He's not wasting time experimenting on ideas that seem "cool" more than being an actual improvement in workflow. He's getting the essentials done first.

Re: Intuitive opening of thumbnailed files...
Ironically, I myself avoid using applications that somehow look or feel old-school, unconventional, non-intuitive, strange etc. But my baby TrackerV3, of course, is too close to produce that kind of software-xenophobia in me. Consequently I need to know from my user base:
Does TV3 make your work stop flowing?
How bad are you missing the Windows Common Controls?
Is TV3 too non-conformistic to do for a user what a file manager has to do for a user?

I conclude you haven't found it yet. I believe you would have found it if it existed. So it does not exist. If it was so clear what a good file manager should be like, why has nobody ever written one?TsunamiZ wrote:I actually want a good tabbed file browser bad enough...

Well, at this point, my attitude about the advice is "take it or leave it."
