(Solved) Recent Changes to Inline File Rename ?

hi! recently (within the last beta or so) i've noticed a change when doing an inline file name and pressing the down arrow to move to the next file.

previously, you could slow-single click (or F2) to start a rename. make the change and press the down arrow to move down to the next file. upon entering the next file, the cursor was in the exact spot as it was from the file above. now, pressing down arrow puts the cursor at the end of the next file.

for example, in this image, i would start a rename and remove everything after S01E05 and then press down arrow and the cursor would be positioned right after 6 - making it very quickly to batch rename files that are following the same pattern using inline + down arrow.

green arrow = previous, red arrow = now.

can you please confirm this as either a bug or intentional ? if intention, is there a setting to return to the previous behavior ?

Don often said he doesn't like too much smartness.
For this situation the new logic seems to be negative
- though the general idea seemed to be fine.

Maybe it needs a bit polish, eg when the prev name is truncated, as described.

admin, thank you for looking at this. hopefully your solution works as before. after reading the patch notes and understanding it, i don't like having to hold CTRL, etc. to achieve what i am used to.

maybe your new idea will be good. if not, please allow us to disable this new smartness via a tweak or setting (otherwise will have to rollback).

yes! you are correct. updated to the latest beta and the default method is back to the previous way ! thank you ! you have no idea how many files in 2 days i accidentally removed the extension from after the change. i thought i was going crazy.
