1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

[BUG] ShowHiddenItems=0 causes back button not to function properly

Post by vrtarifaachen »

Hi all,
This bug or behavior has driven me absolutely nuts for a long time. I finally broke down and tracked the precise setting (wasn't easy!) to XYplorer being set to not show hidden items (showhiddenitems=0). One can also disable the show hidden items using the the menu bar "Show Hidden Items" [H icon].

I'm able to replicate it in the OEM version of XYPlorer 25.00.200. Here's how to replicate the issue.

WITH SHOW HIDDEN FILES OFF
1. I added the directory: "C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming" to my catalog for ease of navigation and named it "Roaming" It can be any directory that is hidden.
2. Clicked the Roaming folder and begin navigating to folders several layers down inside that folder
3. Click back button and it will take you back to the last non-hidden folder and won't respect the folder trail

With showhiddenitems=1 this won't happen. It will take you back 1 folder at a time which is the expected action.

I really hope this is not intended behavior because just because showhidden is set to 0 doesn't mean XYplorer shouldn't respect the folder trail that the user took, regardless of whether the folder is invisible/hidden or not. Show Hidden Folders should only apply to actually displaying the folder icons not the navigation aspect of it.

I hope all of this makes sense?

I'm not as sure as you are. Hidden is hidden.

But even during navigation? I used to work in UI/UX and this seems extraordinarily bizarre in design. Can we poll others to see what they think?
At the very least we should be respecting the breadtrail left the navigation.

1) I replied without trying it. Now I have and see what you mean. The next beta will work better.

2) Are you using the Maxi Tree (i.e. not the Mini Tree)?
