Clicking on a video file to play it automatically and not being able to adjust the volume

Post by hesisiangchi_ »

I was looking for a file sorting program and came across xyplorer, so I've been looking into it. So far, I'm really liking it. Especially the fact that it supports Korean. I had a few questions and searched the documentation, but didn't find the right answers.

1. When I select a video file, it plays immediately. Is there any way to set whether it plays or not?

2. Is there any way to adjust the volume when playing a video file or music file? The volume in xyplorer is incredibly loud compared to the system default. It's very annoying to adjust the system volume every time.

3. How does the tagging system in xyplorer work? Can I re-tag the same file in the same location if I only backup the .dat file?

I wrote this with a translator, thank you.

1. Tools > Configuration < Preview > Autoplay

2. As far as i remember the volume of preview corresponds to system one.. at least there is no internal own volume control.

3. Not sure what you mean by "re-tag the same file in the same location if I only backup the .dat file", but most probably you'll find some hints in XY's Help File - is quite detailed and covers literally every feature. Here's few quick tips for you:
- tags are "portable" and stored in .dat in Application Data folder;
- you can make a back-up of tags database by simply coping tag.dat;
- same way you can copy it to other PC, and if you have there a whole clone of files+folders structure - tag database will work there;
- you can have multiple tags databases, if you need this for some reason, and switch between them.

Hi and welcome to the club!

1. Configuration | Preview | Preview | Audio/Video preview | Autoplay

2. Volume Control is right on the Info Panel:

3. You mean the file tag.dat (= the tags database)? I don't really understand the question.

Thank you for your kind reply. I did what you said and it works perfectly. I also understand the tagging system. It's very nice.

The volume control - In my case, I've activated the preview pane option, and this will be the volume control bar disappear. Even with the preview pane enabled, it would be better if the volume control showed up in the preview tab of the info panel.

A very minor issue, but if select a video file and it's playing in preview, and use web browser to download a new file to that directory (like the downloads folder), the XYplorer window is immediately activated and the video preview stops playing. To prevent this, need to turn off auto-refresh option in the configuration, which I don't think is a good idea - I think it would be better if it only refreshed the file list and the video playback continued. When this happens, the file list shows the newly downloaded file, but the shift+delete command doesn't delete it, so i guessing it's some kind of bug. It must select another tab and then come back to that tab for shift+delete etc to work.

I wish I had known about XYplorer sooner, thank you very much for such a useful program.

1) Good idea to keep audio/video playing on an auto-refresh event! :tup: I'll try to add that to the next beta.

2) I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. The newly downloaded file is automatically selected and you try Shift+Delete to remove it?

Thanks for listening.
Forget the shift+delete story, it was just that.
