Add "Special System Folders" to Move/Copy/Backup?

Post by j_c_hallgren »

Maybe it's just me but I had a need to use the 'Move To" just now and needed to get file to the "Start Menu/All users" which I knew to be pre-defined as a Special System Folder...fine..but...that's NOT one of the submenu choices within the "Move/Copy/Backup" process...I can pick from Fav Folders or Tabs or Browse or those that I'd used before...well, this was none of those, so I had to browse for it...and that took a few clicks.

So...to make it simpler/easier, could the SSF be added as a fourth choice?
That would give handy access to about a dozen different destinations.

Just a little thing that would seem to be useful to more than me...

This never received any replies so after about 40 days, I'm bumping it to see if it might get some action now...

I'm not too fascinated by it. But thanks for bumping.

It didn't seem that complicated a wish compared to some that have been here...adding an existing sub-menu to another sub-menu as I saw it...hopefully some others will think it's worthwhile!
(Assuming you don't reconsider it.)

It would allow one to get to a number of common destinations with little effort compared to now...and add just one line to the sub-menu which wouldn't really affect people who don't need those destinations.

I'd probably use it every now and then, but no big deal for me.
I agree though there's not much harm in adding it to the menu.

Well, ok, so... to be honest I'm not sure it would be that useful. I mean I don't think some of those places would be used to move/copy items to, like, ever, and for others it might be very rare.

I'm thinking of My Computer, Windows folder, System folder, Temporary Internet Files, etc

I would say most of the time no one uses those as destination, and if you happen to use them regularly you have ways to get those here, using MRU or favorites.

You guys all say "there's no harm in adding it", but maybe Don has to consider speed/memory that would actually have an impact everytime a ctxt menu on an item is shown. You say it's nothing, be nothing here & here & there, and it's something. Those menus already have XY additions, shell extensions, etc so adding a new submenu might actually have an impact. Or not, maybe I'm completely off there, just saying : is it worth it?

Sorry jc, I'm not just not sure others would really benefit from this. To be completely honest, what I believe would be pretty useful is that thing that sadly vanished from the roadmap, like to have access to favorite folders & tabs from the M/C/B To window GUI !

I'll be honest, now all the time I use this feature I do it through the window GUI, not the menus, and so I lack those.
I think it would really be a nice benefit if access to Favorites & Tabs would be added there, and if the MRU could not list dupes (you can have "d:\folder", "D:\folder", "D:\Folder", "D:\Folder\", "D:\FOLDER", etc on that MRU, while all of that points to the exact same location/folder!), also maybe not list any Favorites (since they'd be available on their own list) as it used to do before the window GUI...

My 2 cents.
