Just tried beta 24.90.0104, nice Don.

Have you given any thought to my comment above So will the Glider not display at all if there is nothing selected in the list, or will it display but the buttons won't work? Why have the Glider display at all if there's nothing selected on the list panel (i.e., if there no source, why show the target Glider?).

My first impression: Too many targets, too risky. Turns out I keep clicking into the white of the tree to give it focus. This is now dangerous. ---> The glider hot zone probably has to be limited to some narrow and visually marked area.

Now when you hover over folder in tree, there appears a shin rectangle that basically shows the area of folder name and Glider can spawn only outwards of that - how about actually making that more specific and on the way show limited areas left and right, where Glider reacts?

Yeap it's what GreetingsFromPoland asked, i would want a coloured mark of hovered folder too = this allows to better understand what is "focused" by pointer and so what Glider is working with. Colour should be customizeable, and maybe action area too(kinda like Tree Path Tracing can have several variants).

May be, to give the negative communication?:
"Hey, XY understands, you want to see Glider, but there are no applicable items to copy, move, paste!".
And, if user buttons would be possible later for Glider, Glider should be able to show them
independently of presence of an applicable item, so that a script could be run.

My personal opinion, do we really want a Glider popping up everywhere in the tree just to tell you something you should already know, "Hey, you must have something selected in the list." This should be a purposeful event (i.e., I'm moving something, so I need to select something first) and what about the 98% of the time when you have no move or copy planned? It's still popping up?

Well, honestly I still think the same way for a user defined Glider action, the glider should be intended for some action on a selected item in the list...again my personal opinion and we all can differ on that.
Or maybe a quick a Glider activation button or user defined button activation may be considered so is it's only popping up when actually needed (i.e., hit a key or press a button prior to the need to use it, but I'm not convinced that's necessary).

I think, this would be right so.
And if the Glider is activated and does not appear, the user may think "it is someting wrong here"?
This is a point where the additional setting options for Glider behavior could help.
An experienced user would not need the Glider to appear every time,
but a novice would do.

I think, making the inactive state of the glider/buttons more prominent would suffice. Maybe render them completely grey. I'm sure that's on the list, just not done yet.

Nice work on beta 24.90.0105. Limiting the Glider activation area solves issues with it popping up everywhere. Not having a file/folder selected in the list has been solved with that limited hotzone along with disabling the Glider buttons. Clearly indicating the target is also welcome. When a user clicks on a target button that's disabled, you may want to show a status bar message similar to, "No file(s) or folder(s) selected in list panel."

Mh, using a locked mini tree (as narrow as possible) I find the current iteration unusable. It often hides 90% of the folder name...

What do you suggest? Vertical Glider or configurable Glider e.g. single button - Paste?

So now activation area is strict only right most? I'd say there should be a switch for left/right/both. Overall, decision to merge activation area to tree borders is not bad. Though i still think a marking of folder from my mock-up would be more user-friendly, especially for users to find the feature and get used to it.(currently it kinda pop-up unexpected and new user may not even understand what was the trigger/where to search for Glider)

No problem here going to left/right/both. I'd probably use the right more often since typically I would have just selected files on the list panel so the right edge would be closer.

Extending the icons to the right side (as an option) would be a working solution as well (you can still tell they belong to the tree because of the border of the hovered folder there)

1. activation area on the right side - is ok, but it must be continous from folder name to the right vertical stripe, now it is too narrow.
2. Glider shold be always visible if the mouse is in the activation area - it should not appear only if the mouse stops.
3. Glider must appear only in dedicated area near the vertical stripe - not under mouse cursor.
I often come into the space somewhere between folders and do not see the Glider,
so that it is not "using Glider", it is "searching for and catching Glider".
And I think that all these behavior variants must be optional.
Otherwise there always will be someone thinking the Glider must funktion in an other way.
