I've been happily evaluating XYplorer for several days now and overall am very impressed, especially as a fellow programmer. Up until today the program has performed flawlessly - no hiccups or issues to speak of. Suddenly today I encountered the dreaded "not responding" whilst performing the same activities I've executed many times during my evaluation: folder renaming and undo rename. I do this as a matter of course when testing software so that different parameter sets are available to software during execution. Then I undo the rename to revert to the original parameter sets contained within those sub folders.
Anyway, XYplorer has performed this task flawlessly for days, executing the undo immediately - until today - with a lag of at least 10 seconds. It would even do this this on empty folders - any folders that I rename then undo rename. I haven't tried other undo activities to test the issue. This was enough for me. Any undo rename caused "not responding".
The solution I discovered was to run XYplorer as Administrator. Not only does this result in immediate execution of the undo, but XYplorer also launches far more quickly (launching had also become somewhat slower). It's not an altogether satisfactory solution, but it overcomes the problem for now. Still, it remains an issue if I don't run as administrator.

Re: Not Responding
I cannot reproduce this issue, and I see no obvious connection between undo and permission level, do you? And can you reproduce this problem at will?

Re: Not Responding
I am just spitballing, but when you run as Admin, usually you don't have access to mapped drives, so possibly it could be faster because of some LAN issue. Did you try clearing your Action Log, possibly it has old LAN entries somehow causing issue.

Re: Not Responding
Yes, this happens "at will". During the first couple of days evaluation, speed was good. I don't know whether it was a configuration change I made that contributed to the problem or not. I've tweaked several things.
I did clear the action log, but no change there.
Launch time (non-admin mode) is around 70 seconds.
As for Admin and mapped network drives, I gained access to mapped network drives in admin mode, so that isn't the issue. Frankly, I'm stumped. I love the product, but the only way I can run it is as Admin. Really strange I've tried adding it to my AV program, but that doesn't improve things either. Also tried disabling AV with no improvement. I'm at something of a loss presently.

Re: Not Responding
As an experiment, I renamed the XYplorer.ini file, working on the assumption that I made a config change that caused the issues. Now I can happily rename folders and undo the rename with alacrity. I'll now work towards identifying what the change was that caused the issue in the first place. I'm occupied with other things over the next couple of days so may not get back to this until next week.
Re: Not Responding
Having completed a side by side compare and reestablished the settings that contributed to the original issue, I am unable to duplicate it. Even though the issue persisted for days when it first occurred, it is no longer happening, so for now I can contribute nothing further to this discussion. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll put it aside and let you know if it occurs again.
Re: Not Responding
I too have been dealing with a lot of "Not Responding" in XYplorer recently. In addition to what seems to be "the usual" advice about excepting XYplorer executables from anti-virus programs, and disabling several settings that deal with network locations (I run a Synology NAS), this weekend I found this little nugget from the past:
viewtopic.php?p=52702#p52702
It recommended un-checking Configuration->General->Icons->Show icon overlays -- and it has dramatically improved XY performance. I am running XYplorer 24.60.0100. I also have Dropbox and OneDrive running on my machine. I still have Not Responding trouble with one folder on my NAS (many files, complex folder structure), but I estimate that my Not Responding issues are down by ~90% now that I unchecked "Show icon overlays".
As a side note, as I worked on this issue this weekend, I did a fresh install of XY and had to find my original registration information:
Date of Purchase: 2008-01-27
Re: Not Responding
A point of commonality between us is a Synology NAS. I also have "Show icon overlays" checked, but have not experienced the issue again in some time, nor have I made any other changes that I believe may have resolved the issue, other than standing on my head and hoping for a mystical intervention. I don't use DropBox or OneDrive or any other similar service. It's quite a vanilla laptop in most respects. I've tried tweaking a few options and not yet been able to duplicate the issue. Everything remains stable and functional for now.

Many, many times over, Don. I have taken XY with me around the world, in a number of roles and organizations, and it has brought order to the chaos that is most organizations' file systems. Vielen Dank.
