Same icons for files as in WE

Post by ivan »

I've searched the forum, wiki and FAQ and don't seem to see the answer or mentioning. My apologies in advance if I overlooked.

On my system I have VLC player set as default to play MP4 files. This resulted in the icon for all MP4 files changing to a standard VLC player icon. However, when I view the same list of files in XYplorer the icon is still shown as QuickTime player (the previous default player for this type of files). Double-clicking still opens in VLC, but the icon remains the same. Would be great if icon settings are migrated over... :)

I've got to run an errand but just a quikie suggestion: Check on the "Cache specific icons" on the Advanced panel of Config...not sure if any connection but it's a off-the-top-of-head idea to look at.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I already have it ticked, but the one below called "Use generic icons" isn't though. I ticked that one as well and all displayed "properly". I guess it's the phrasing "Use generic icons" that threw me off a little. Something like "Use default Windows icons" would have sounded better but that's just IMHO

Edit: would be great to have them on a per-application basis rather than sweeping across the board, but a man can dream... :P

Hmm, I doubt that ticking "Use generic icons" will give you the expected results. I guess what you experienced was a caching issue that should be resolved by a restart.

Funnily enough, ticking the generic box did the trick, didn't have to restart either because it refreshed the window in real-time. All well than ends well 8)

Well, go to XYplorer.exe's icon now... do you like what you see?

Yep, changed back to default one. I guess there are 2 ways of doing it depending on if the rest matters or not ;)

Re: Same icons for files as in WE

A little glitch in this seems to have resurfaced. Same problem as last time, the correct icon isn't being displayed in XY.

When viewed in WinRAR it shows just fine.

However, in WE the same icon as in XY is shown. Ticking/unticking combinations of "Cache specific icons" and "Use generic icons for super-fast browsing" unfortunately didn't help like it did before :?
