Locked file sequence causes Rename fail

Post by Malarki »

For a long time, XY has occasionally gotten confused about file lock status and will act strangely after a collision. Here finally is something I can reproduce.

•) In a ::fresh instance of v24.30.0121, Win 10 x64
•) From within an XY list I double-click on FILE.PDF
•) This file opens in PDF-XChange.
•) While that's open, I long-left click on the FILE.PDF filename.
•) XY goes into Rename mode on it.
•) I attempt to rename it but XY reports that it's locked.
•) I kill the PDF-XChange windows.
•) XY now ignores long-left click on all files.
•) Using right-click | Rename gets the error "Tree of List must have Input Focus".

To restore things to normal I have to close and then reopen XY.

I think this is related to:

Not enough detail, cannot reproduce. Add exactly all the steps of action between these points:

•) I attempt to rename it but XY reports that it's locked.
•) I kill the PDF-XChange windows.

"•) I attempt to rename it but XY reports that it's locked"
DETAILS:
The file is named "FILE.PDF"
The long-left click for rename (or can use F2) makes XY highlight the base name of the file i.e. "FILE", as an editable field.
Using the keyboard I change the name to FIL.PDF; then press Enter
XY pops a "File In Use" window saying "The action can't be completed because the file is open in PDF-XChange Editor".
The two choices in that window are "Try Again" and "Cancel"
I click on "Cancel" and the pop-up window disappears.

"•) I kill the PDF-XChange windows" (typo, should have been 'window' singular)
DETAILS :
I click on the 'X' in the top right corner of the PDF-XChange Editor window.
PDF-XChange Editor quits / closes / terminates / vanishes; with no prompt since I made no internal changes to the PDF.

Without further input, XY then completes the rename to "FIL.PDF".
But XY will no longer respond to F2 or long-left click in that List panel.
In fact I can't select any file in that pane for any action.

The same thing happens if I use Foxit Phantom (trial) instead of PDF-XChange Editor. Of course apps that don't lock a file they've opened (such as Notepad) won't show this effect.

Thanks, got it!

The list loses the input focus. I need to see where the focus went and how to prevent it. In the meantime, there is an easy way: just click into the tree and back into the list, and you are ready to go.

UPDATE: Fixed in next beta. :cup:
