Question 1:

The above is my custom icon settings.

I have encrypted the folder.

(I'm using the Win10 OS.)

The folder on the left displays my customized icons, while the folder on the right displays the system default icons. This seems incorrect.

Question 2:

I have removed the selection in the settings. As shown in the above figure.

(I'm using the Win10 OS.)

There is a small lock image on the icon of the encrypted file. Can you help me remove this small lock image?

(I set the font color of the file name to green to indicate that the file is encrypted, so I don't want this small lock image. Thank you very much for your help.)

Question 3:

I have customized the icon for the folder. I created a shortcut to the folder, and the icon for the shortcut remains the system icon. This seems incorrect.

1) I cannot reproduce the issue. Works fine here (Win 8.1). Can somebody with Win10 reproduce it?

2) This tiny lock seems to be part of the icon. It's not a normal overlay. I cannot do anything about it.

3) Yes, this looks like a bug. I'll fix it. :bug:

Thank you very much.

Question 1:

There is no problem with Win8.1, there is a problem with Win10. I just tried Win11 and there is also a problem. I installed Win11 in a VMware virtual machine.

(I am currently using the Win8.1 system. In January of this year, Microsoft stopped security support for Win8.1, and in February of this year, Chrome stopped support for Win8.1, so I had to update the system.)

This is a screenshot of Win11.

Question 2:

If the icon is 16 pixels x 16 pixels, adding this small lock will make the icon unclear.

There are 2 screenshots below. If the file is encrypted, there will be a small lock on the icon, while if the file is not encrypted, there will be no small lock. This small lock is similar to the arrow on the shortcut.

There is no problem with Win8.1, Win10 and Win11 have this problem.

Thank you very much.

1) Maybe another of your CFI definitions matches your encrypted folders before your general folder icon definition? (The first matching definition wins, from top to bottom.)

2) I cannot control those locks on the icons of encrypted files, they are imposed by the system. At least I don't know of any way to do it.

By modifying the registry, I resolved question 1 and 2.

Step 1: Install a new Win10

Step 2: Copy the icons to the path: C:\Users\Public\Pictures\ICO\, transparent.ico is a transparent icon from the website: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/358 ... -10-a.html

Step 3: Import Registry

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
;Remove Lock Icon on Encrypted Files and Folders in Windows 10
"178"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Pictures\\ICO\\transparent.ico"
;Explorer Closed Folder
"3"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Pictures\\ICO\\MyFolder.ico"
;Explorer Open Folder
"4"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Pictures\\ICO\\MyFolder.ico"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
;Remove Lock Icon on Encrypted Files and Folders in Windows 10
"178"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Pictures\\ICO\\transparent.ico"
;Explorer Closed Folder
"3"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Pictures\\ICO\\MyFolder.ico"
;Explorer Open Folder
"4"="C:\\Users\\Public\\Pictures\\ICO\\MyFolder.ico"
Step 4: Restart the computer

The following are three screenshots of restarting the computer.

I referred to the following two websites:

https://superuser.com/questions/1406594 ... on-numbers

XYplorer is my favorite software that I use every day, so I hope to solve question 1 and 2 without modifying the registry.

Thank you very much.

Good news:

1) I could fix the Custom File Icons bug. :cup:

2) I learned how to suppress that "Lock" overlay. But for now I did not implement it. I think it is a valid piece of information.
