In XYplorer 24.30.0000, the current default behavior seems to be to only preview audio when the Preview tab of the Info Panel is open.

By default, it seems that if the Preview tab is hidden, no audio preview will occur even if the Info Panel is open but on a different tab.

If the user checks:
Configuration | Preview | Audio preview | Play also when info panel is hidden
...then audio preview will play anytime regardless of the info panel's visibility.

If the user unchecks that setting, the user would likely still expect audio preview to occur when the Info Panel is not hidden... but that's not exactly right. It seems the Info Panel must be not hidden, and with the Preview tab selected, for audio preview to occur.

To make the setting label more clear and accurate to the user, would it make sense to rename it:

Config | Preview | Audio preview | Play also when Preview tab is hidden
