:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Sort order arrows can mislead

Post by jaydear »

When "Sort & Rename / Sort Folder Always Ascending" is selected the up/down arrows in all the other columns should be disabled from displaying and/or changing. Currently they can be selected and changed! Of course, the sort order does not change, so I suggest showing only the arrow in the Name column and preventing the arrow from changing. I had an

The arrows in the other columns change/indicate the sort of FILES, the option you mentioned when enabled, only applies to FOLDERS listed in the pane.

That is basically correct. I was working with a list of Folders that look very similar to each other and accidentally deleted several irreplaceable FOLDERS when I thought I had changed the sort order as indicated by the changed state of the up/down arrows. The arrows should not be able to change in that mode. XYplorer exists to assist us mere mortals to manipulate our data, not prey on our mental frailty!

What jupe says here is obviously the case, so I see no need or way to improve anything. I also cannot see how sort arrows can be responsible for permanently deleting important data. Far-fetched.

Thanks for your replies. I will be very careful in future to ensure that XYplorer is sorting the way I think it is.
