Need Help - Error 9 Codes Now Daily Occurrence ...

Post by cfguy101 »

Hi All,

You may view my previous post here: viewtopic.php?t=25827, which detail my previous two "Error 9 Codes" - that last (before today's) was just yesterday, March 6 (details posted at end of post). I started this new post because it seems I was no longer getting any replies/help on the original post.

Here is my post for today:

Received another "Error 9" message - second day in a row.

Below, please find the error details, as copied/pasted from the XYplorer error reporting part of the program. I am also pasting/attaching a PNG screenshot of the error 9 code at the end of this message.

Any suggestions, help of troubleshooting would be much appreciated, as this is now becoming a daily occurrence.

Thanks so much for your help and advice.

Thanks,
-Cfguy

In case you reply to this one, include a screenshot of your whole tree if possible. Something seems to be very wrong with that tree, and maybe it shows in the shot.

Hi All,

Apologies for not having seen previous message requesting screenshot of "tree" when Error 9 error occurs.

I did receive another Error 9 error yesterday at 11:24 AM, EST. I was pressed for time yesterday, so did not get to post information here immediately, however I did save error message, take screenshot of error message (attached, for your reference), and also took a screenshot of XYplorer "tree" (attached, for your reference) immediately after the Error 9 error occurred, sand saved it all so that I could post at a more convenient time (this morning). I redacted any user information or user photos in the XYplorer "tree" screenshot (for privacy purposes) before attaching. Also, the top frame of the XYplorer "tree" is of a "networked drive", and I notice that XYplorer is duplicating each directory in the particular folder on the networked drive (this has happened to me on other occasions, as well, without receiving any error messages). In the meantime, below please find the clipboard text of the error pasted below, as well as screenshots of the error (when it occurred) and, as requested, the XYplorer directory tree in its current state when the error occurred (with some user information redacted) inserted at the end of this message, and attached, as well.

As always, thanks for your help, and I will check back to see what steps you feel I should take next.

Thanks,
-Cfguy

The screenshot of your tree reveals what I suspected, only in a far more extreme degree: Your tree is completely gaga! Didn't you see that??? Didn't you think that it might be worth mentioning? No idea how you managed to arrive at this chaos. How does the tree look in File Explorer? Got a screenshot?

PS: Or is that chaos a result of your whitening out certain words in the screenshot?

Whatever, the crucial part is: idxParent=1109, newID=18
As I said before, idxParent MUST always be smaller than newID. Just from looking at the code I cannot see a way how to reach to the opposite. But obviously there is one. Maybe some circular references (junctions?) in your special folders?

This is obviously a unique case, and I just don't have the time for it. It will take hours or more to get to the bottom of this. Sorry, this is simply beyond my job definition. :|

Well... That might be true for Folder Paths and even Volume Names, but I can't see how that can apply to the Documents Folder (in the Tree) or Desktop and Documents Folders (in the second pane)...

Hard to take these reports serious. And the lack of response speed does not help. Losing interest. :om:

Fixed an error 9 today. Who knows, maybe it's this one. :) ... No, just kidding. I did not fix that tree.

I have now seen these errors happen a few times in different instances, I am just browsing not creating a new folder etc, since the OP abandoned the thread, if there is something I can answer or do to debug, let me know.

It would help to see these messages in a readable size. ;)

But never mind, I could decipher them, and probably fix the bug. 8)

Hi Admin,

I wanted to follow-up on the previous post you had referenced earlier
admin wrote: 07 Mar 2023 10:58

Code: Select all

 idxParent=35, newID=20
This kind of explains it on a surface level. newID can never be smaller than idxParent! That's as if a child was older that its parents. The question is why does this happen??? I don't get it. Is there anything special about your tree?

That folder "ClipMateExport", where is it? Which level of depth?
My apologies for not having addressed this sooner. Your question was "That folder "ClipMateExport", where is it? Which level of depth?"

Here is the Export of the path: E:\XXXXX's Documents\ClipMate™ Export (where "E:" is a local (not networked) external hard drive attached via USB port to my desktop computer.

Pasted below, and attached (as file "Folder Tree.png") to this message please find an annotated "Folder Tree" PNG file (with names redacted for privacy), so that you may see exactly where (within the folder tree) the "ClipMate™ Export" sub-folder is.

I have no idea why you would make the assertion that my tree is "gaga" (whatever you mean by that). Would you please explain your reasoning for making the assertion?

There are times (not often) when XYplorer will have "double folder and file listings" in a pane, and when I looked back at the screenshot posted which lead to your "gaga" comment, it appears to have happened (the "double folder and file listings") in the top frame. However, this is not anything I am doing on purpose.

To answer your question my tree structure looks and preforms fine in Explorer. There are never any "double folder and file listings" in Explorer and I get no error messages, such as the "error 9" messages I repeatedly get in XYplorer. However, we all know that Explorer is no substitute for all of the features that XYplorer offers.

Regarding the "whitening out" (redacting) of folder or file names in screenshots - this is done to maintain a level of privacy when one is posting on a publicly accessible user forum such as this. There is nothing "devious" about that, it's just common sense for those concerned with maintaining a level of privacy, and I don't understand how this could have anything to do with the XYplorer "error 9" messages, as it is done in "screenshot editing".

I hope this latest screenshot post of my file tree relating to the position of the sub-directory you previously asked about is helpful. Please let me know.

Thanks again for your help!

Best Wishes,
-Cfguy

If there is a problem, can you describe it in one clear sentence?
