When I preview .doc files, I can edit them and save the changes. This is great. I can also edit and save .rtf files in the preview window.
But when I preview a .txt (or .ini) file, I can only view it, and not edit it in the preview window. Am I doing something wrong here ? It seems like it should be much easier to edit and save a .txt than a .doc or .rtf ?
Editing .txt files in preview window.

No, you're not doing anything wrong! It's because .doc or .rtf require use of actual word processing program (Word, etc) to properly display them via IE interface so thus you can edit it as side benefit, whereas a .txt file can be displayed just fine by almost any pgrm such as XY, so thus no editing is possible.radnor wrote:Am I doing something wrong here ? Maybe there could be a way to hook into Notepad?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

No way, or at least no plan to go.j_c_hallgren wrote:No, you're not doing anything wrong! Indeed, the ability to edit Office docs is rather a side effect than a feature. I don't think a file manager should offer editing capabilities.

Having the editing feature directly in XY is agreed to be a no-go, but having an ability to interface easily to other products to do so for non-Office docs could be within the realm of a file manager, IMO.admin wrote:Indeed, the ability to edit Office docs is rather a side effect than a feature.
