PDF iFilter not working in Xyplorer

Post by anaskhan »

I am on version 23.60 on Windows 11 and have Foxit PDF installed (with its iFilter); the ifilter is working in other software (fluent Search) but not in xyplorer.

Xyplorer is able to search in docx, xlsx, pptx, txt but not in PDF

Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | [x] Use 64-bit preview handlers for preview

is ticked?

Yes, it was ticked too; I just installed sumatra PDF and set it as default and now content as well as preview are working fine. I'll lock ticket with Foxit about the issue in the their reader.

Fo testing I had installed the Foxit PDF preview handler.
This worked in all places including XY and had some nice function.
After some tests I deinstalled it because it puts a copy of every file you preview in the users temp dir.
I had set the Foxit preview handler in XY as User defined preview handler

Windows 11 Home, Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9278)
Portable x64 XYplorer (Actual version, including betas)
Display settings 1920 x 1080 Scale 100%
Everything 1.5.0.1423b (x64), Everything Toolbar 3.2, Listary Pro 7.0.0.9 beta

I also discussed it with Foxit team and they suggested few commands to re-register foxit preview and thumbnail handlers and I did it succesfully (with Sumatra PDF still installed); I set Foxit to be default PDF viewer and then searched for content and everything worked. I thought Foxit is working now (it was not). Then I uninstalled Sumatra, now I am back to zero.

Currently I have only foxit installed as default, PDF preview in Xyplorer are working fine, I think I have all the settings correct (see attachments).

For the errors in Foxit re-register command I am talking with Foxit team. Don't know what is exactly wrong with my setup.

XY isn't using the index of Windows so it those settings don't matter anyway

Any hints where I can look? With Sumatra PDF it works 100% of time.

Can't help, no version / bitness information for Foxit, "Foxit support said something" (but you don't tell us what), your "User-Defined Preview Handlers" entry in "Categories" isn't even checked (so why do you think they are used at all)?

Foxit PDF Editor 12.0.1.12430 [I think it is 32 bit since it is installed x86 program files(there is no option on website to select 32/64bit)].
Foxit support said to run the following command:
Foxit Preview & iFilter Handler:
regsvr32 /u "<C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitPrevHndlr.dll>", press Enter.
regsvr32.exe "<C:\Program Files (x86)\Foxit Software\Foxit PDF Editor\Shell Extensions\FoxitPrevHndlr.dll>", press Enter.
Which didn't help
Unticked user-defined handlers are in screenshot but I tried ticking and adding it with different permutation combinantions but in vain. Interesting part is as soon as I uninstalled this heavy loaded ~2Gig PDF reader and install 7MB Sumatra, everything just works out of the box, no settings nothing which make it clear that either Xyplorer is not behaving properly with Foxit or Foxit in itself has some issues.

I've got Foxit PDF Editor installed (version 11.2.1) and it's my default PDF application. PDF previews in XYplorer appear to work perfectly. I wonder how I can check whether XYplorer is using Foxit or whether some other magic on my system is making it work.

Prview is working for me too; it's content search that is not working.

For whatever reason, XY can't load that iFilter correctly.

Select a .pdf file
Execute this from the address bar:

text extracttext();

Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Use 64-bit IFilters for content search
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Fall back to preview handlers of the other bitness

Enable both of these settings (you seemed to allude that you disabled both in the other topic), if it doesn't work try the top one only, if it crashes still then it is incompatible, all the screenshots you posted are irrelevant to content search, only these settings are.
