No icon in List for .lnk file that points to network folder

Post by elqasar2 »

I find that shortcuts (.lnk files) to network folders don't display any folder icons in the List. When hovering over them, the hover box shows the icon just fine. In File Explorer, the folder icon is visible just fine.

I've tried refreshing the List, and also doing View - Caches - Refresh Icons. Nothing helps.

No, I think this has been the case for some time. It's just that recent discussion have reminded me about this problem with .lnk files and how they show the wrong icon in the List.

Cannot reproduce this. Neither on Win8.1 nor on Win10.

What other information do you want me to provide? If the Hover Box shows the icon, why can't the List?

Nope, as can be seen in the screenshot in the first post, Custom File Icons is off. But I think I've just found the setting that's causing it. Generic Icons, In Network Locations Only. Does generic icons mean blank icons? If I turn that off, then the icon shows.

Yes, generic icons mean blank icons in case of LNK files. (Frankly, off hand I cannot tell you why; I'll look into it tomorrow.)
