:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

always asks to select app to open a png image

Post by yuxt »

It's a strange issue:
- win 10 x64 21H1 19043.1348, have irfanview 4.58 x 64 win store version installed and set as default pic viewer;
- double click a png file in default explorer, it automatically opens in irfanview (as it's the default app);
- double click a png file in xyplorer, it always asks me which software to use (even ticked always to use...)
- tested on the latest installer (22.50.0200), latest portable version (22.50.0200) and 21.50.0100, 22.30.0200, 22.40.0200

Cannot figure out why. any clues? Thanks

It is a known issue without a definite solution on the system side AFAIK.
However, an easy solution is to set up a default CFA in XY to catch all images and open them with Irfanview as shown in the image below:

This is for the regular installed version of Irfanview, I'm not sure about the syntax for the Win Store version though.

works nicely!

I used irfanview win store version just for testing - tried installer and portable version before. Now I switched back to an installer version and followed your instructions.

Thank you very much!

No worries!
You might want to read up on CFA's anyway, as they offer a lot of flexibility for all sorts of things from appending dates to filenames to timestamping files:

Just thinking about Irfanview, there are a few more CFA's in my collection for re-sizing images:

@RalphM,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been trying to figure out a solution ever since I reset Windows a couple of days ago. I, too, never investigated CFAs and now I'm all over them.

Again, thank you for saving what is left of my hair! :mrgreen:
