Was there is a reason why i cannot select multiple files and use "copy here with suffix" and other related tasks? I have to select one file at a time to do this.
Was this feature not implemented or cannot be done? Just wondering.
Copy here with suffix for multiple file?

Yes, I know. It has not been done because it's a bit tricky. But I plan to do it -- it's clearly missing!serendipity wrote:Was there is a reason why i cannot select multiple files and use "copy here with suffix" and other related tasks? I have to select one file at a time to do this.

This is definitely another little item that would/could be useful to any level of user! Yes, scripting is the latest great thing, but it's extended basics like this that can help in selling it to the masses...ok, so you can do a copy/paste right now to do it, but having the command work as one may expect is better.admin wrote:Yes, I know. Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Little personal remark: When I said "it's clearly missing" I said that from the perspective of functional symmetry -- in real world file management I have never missed it! I use those functions a LOT and I always apply them just to one file or folder. Not because I'm limited to one but because I just need one.j_c_hallgren wrote:This is definitely another little item that would/could be useful to any level of user! Re: Copy here with suffix for multiple file?
Okay, I dedided to do it, and I actually did it. Works nicely.
Only one question about expected behavior: I made it so that collisions with already existing files cannot happen (they are avoided by auto-appending numbers). Now I also implemented "Copy/move here as" for multiple files (somebody might even use it
)! In the previous XYplorer this function allowed for collisions to happen and generated the shell collision prompt ("Do you want to overwrite..."). Now the question: Would you expect a collision prompt when you save-as a file under some other name, or would you expect (or prefer?) auto-avoiding of collisions? Note that if you favor collision prompts then you will possibly get many such prompts when you save-as multiple files.

I have a feeling this may be one of those where different users have differing ideas...For me, I tend to prefer collision prompts as it's an indication that I did what I was planning to...if I wanted to avoid the dup's, then I'd likely have done the function another way.admin wrote: Now the question: Would you expect a collision prompt when you save-as a file under some other name, or would you expect (or prefer?) auto-avoiding of collisions? Upon detection of a collision, could the prompt possibly give choice of which to do? (Either overwrite or change name)...this combined with "yes to all" could mean multiple choices, but would allow greatest flexability...just thinking...

Thanks for your opinions.
I'm also pro collision & prompt. "Yes to all" will be available.
I don't want other questions/choices along the way because that's always stress for the user.
