Preview Pane > ZIP Drag & Drop?

Post by Zardoz2293 »

Is the Preview Pane supporting ZIP Drag & Drop (DND)? It provides the visual indicator that it is to work. Dragging a file or files from the Preview Pane on a Zip will not COPY the contents into XY if dragged into XY LV.

Is this an oversight displaying the mouse cursor change and the copy function isn't working OR does this need to be made a wish request (seems to me to have a lot of value, at least having the ability to DND from the Preview Pane Copy (out of) ability

This should work, are you running XY as Admin (shouldn't matter anyway) or anything weird? What location are you dragging to, is it a normal folder?

LOL, Weird. It works like a charm; with or without 'as Admin'. I have absolutely no idea as to what the problem has been, it's never once worked until your magic words. What would happen is the drag to copy would simply do nothing, no file(s), no error message. I'm like almost positive the 'color' of the drop message was yellow, now it is blue (see below):

The "move" feature doesn't work (performs a copy operation). Is this by design or oversight? (regardless of 'as Admin' or not)

How can you move from a zip? that is not normal behavior for any clients that I am aware of since it is a 2 step process, extract/copy + delete original.

Shfit + Left Button (while Dragging)

"MOVE" means 'extract/copy + delete" to me, otherwise if not supported, the "MOVE" status change should not be supported.

Clicking on the Preview Pane (ZIP file) and selecting a file, then DELete results in corrupt Zip file.

Further, Drag from XY (copy) to say WinRAR indicates a copy from XY, but no copy event occurs.

I worded that wrong, I know how to do it, I just meant how can you expect it to perform a move (regardless of the status box wording), but after testing surprisingly you are correct Explorer works like that in a 1 step process, I'd be surprised if XY can interface with the Explorer zip component to perform that action, but anywaywe'll see what the dev says.

In short, if a copy can be performed then I'd expect if a delete, or move is initiated (as it provides the visual and/or dialog events), I would expect the associated processes to correctly occur. Not sure why on the 'delete' operation the zip became jacked-up, but it did.

Not sure about using the internal Windows Shell for zip actions as my experience is limited there, all my commercial work done using compression API's, always external 3rd party, which have their own quirks.

Only Copy is supported. Any attempt to move should be ignored. Weirdly I currently cannot drag from zip preview at all under Win8.1. Will test later under Win10.
