[resolved] Missing column sizing indicator

I have a couple of issues an issue that I can't seem to resolve -

First, whenever I initiate a drag operation, either left or right mouse button, my mouse pointer disappears. This makes identifying the drop target difficult to identify.

Second, hovering over a column divider should change the mouse pointer to the vertical bar "Sizing" indicator, but the mouse cursor does not change.
RESOLVED: This appears to have been fixed with one of the latest Insider Preview builds

The first issue does NOT happen with "::fresh" so I know it's something in my configuration, but what? (RESOLVED)
The second issue DOES happen with "::fresh".

I am running Windows 11, and using the default mouse pointer. I've tried changing the mouse pointer to another scheme, with no change in these behaviors, so I have changed it back to the default cursor.


This GIF shows attempting to drag a file to a folder above it, using both left drag, and then right drag, in both cases, the pointer vanishes.

RESOLVED: Tick the option "Use standard drag and drop"

The second GIF (in a "::fresh" instance) shows moving the mouse pointer over the column header and it does not change to indicate sizing.

Yup. Also, just updated BIOS again, and took all Windows Updates, still both problems remain, one in ::fresh

Here's a GIF of both things working correctly in Windows Explorer, on Windows 11 (version 10.0.22567.200)

Further testing shows that dragging from WE to XY does show the pointer and the drop target icons. Dragging from XY results in the same missing pointer behavior, UNTIL the pointer is moved outside of XY, then the drag/drop pointer appears.

Again, since some of this behavior works in ::fresh but some does not, I'm sure it's something in my config. Last time this happened, I wound up spending a couple hours diffing xyplorer.ini line by line, until I found the setting that caused a problem, but was not evident util saving changes and reloading XY. Since part of this bad behavior is happening with ::fresh, I'm not sure spending that kind of time diffing lines again is going to be productive.

The first issue was resolved by ticking the option "Use standard drag and drop".

The second issue remains (and is still reproducible in ::fresh) after changing the drag and drop option.

I've tried "None", "Default", "Inverted", and "Magnified", all schemes exhibit the same missing column header pointer behavior, even in ::fresh.

This is a very large monitor, 49" Super Ultrawide, with a display resolution of 5120x1440, so I usually use a larger pointer, because otherwise it is very hard to see at this resolution. But again, this is happening regardless of resolution, and also in a fresh instance. Also played with Dark Mode vs Light mode, horizontal panes vs vertical, anything I could think to try, but have not yet been able to resolve this. BTW this reply made me think to try XY on the other monitor, a 34" widescreen, at 2560x1080, and the same behavior exists.

NEW problem, now I seem to have lost D&D altogether, causing a fatal hang of XY when I try.

I had toggled "use standard shell drag and drop" to "fix" the first issue, where I had lost the pointer when dragging something. After a reboot, now I get the "Universal No" Symbol, a circle with a bar through it, the moment I begin any drag operation, and XY is then frozen, it has to be crash closed.

I've toggled the "use standard shell drag and drop" feature multiple times, and tried launching XY as Administrator, nothing now changes this behavior. I should probably start a new bug thread now? The column sizing indicator issue remains, so this thread is still open, but now I have this new "Can't Drag Anything" bug. Gah!

Found the cause of the hang, it's "Show drag status box". Unsure what other combinations of settings causes it to hang, but that option works fine in ::fresh.

I've tried toggling "custom drag and drop context menu" and "use standard shell drag and drop", but as long as "show drag status box" is checked, my configuration hangs.

I already spent way too much time diffing the ini, got as far as that line (ShowDragStatusBox=1) and reproduced the hang, I can't spend any more time on this right now. At least I have the drag icon working properly if I leave it as "use standard shell drag and drop".

The missing column header sizing pointer is still an issue though, cannot resolve that one, and that is reproducible with ::fresh, so maybe that's a Windows 11 thing, although it's working fine in Windows Explorer.

Since you seem to be the only one experiencing those issues it's unlikely that XY alone is causing them. But just for fun can you try a very old version from the freezer (https://www.xyplorer.com/freezer.php)?

just tried several old versions, going all the way back to the oldest one in the freezer, 7.3, and the column header splitter bar is not working in all of them (clean, portable installs).

So, it must be something about this version of Windows 11, but yet the mouse pointer changes properly to the splitter indicator on Windows Explorer, so, no idea. It's definitely nothing in my XY config, because it's happening in ::fresh, all the way back to version 7.3

Well, Windows 11 is still work in progress. Bugs and fixes will be raining on us for a long time.
