A minimum width for autosize column

Post by Gabrielle »

Is there a way to set a minimum width for autosize column? It's weird falling into certain folders with such a narrown column.

You might give this a try: Configuration | Colors and Styles | Styles | Columns | Autofit the width of the Name column

I guess that's not the purpose of what she wants. Falling back from very long name columns to very narrow ones is indeed not really "beautiful". I'd second a request for a min value

But other than "Configuration | Colors and Styles | Styles | Columns | Autosize columns maximum width (0 = unlimited)" this should only apply to the Name column, right?

Yeah, it's only for the name column.

E.g. Min name column width: 250

Now when names are longer that would fit into these 250 px the column is enlarged but when you switch into a folder / tab where all entries would be below this value, the column width stays at 250 px instead of being reduced further

Would love to see that as well because I was never lucky with the autoresize feature that can make the name column too small...

I chose to write it here because it is related to this topic.
I hope you don't mind.
I don't want to stop using "Autofit the width of the Name Column".
However, in a list with not many columns, the display of the name column becomes very bad.
(I usually position the name column on the left.)

So I think it would be good to add the "maximum width" setting for the Name column as well.
I will be glad if you accept. :)

You should, because "Autosize Name Column Right Margin" is much better IMO. Try it.
Just use higher value than 200.

I tried with the setting you mentioned in the list with many columns.
Both with and without "Truncate filenames in the middle".
Yes, after a few tries, the appropriate one can be reached.
But the length of the name column is determined indirectly.
Therefore, when switching to another folder, the setting may not be appropriate, that is, it is not flexible.

If, as I stated;
(In a list with many columns,)
(In case of using "Autofit the width of the Name Column" and "Truncate Filenames In The Middle".)
If "Maximum Width" setting is added for "Name column", "Name column" will be set directly.
Also, I think it would be a more flexible setting.

If accepted, this feature will not affect anyone negatively as it will be optional. :)

Looks awesome, now, thanks much. But... PATH column is also autosizing, disregarding my explicit manual resizing of it. Is this supposed to work this way?

Autosize Columns affects all columns.

Any granularity planned for it? Else, limiting autosize to "name" and "size" columns only?

As it is, when "path" column is required, the whole thing turns into an awckward experience for deeper levels.

I recommend this setup instead of using Autosize Columns:
