Wrong folder path opens in catalog.

Post by MindReader »

Open the same version XYplorer on 2 separate USB sticks one after the other.
Do the following 3 actions first on one and then the other.
1) Right-click on the empty space in the catalog, select "catalog", click "Save As..." from the pop-up window and save.
2) Right-click on the empty space in the catalog, select "Catalog", click "Open..." in the pop-up window and open your selection.
3) Make "Save Settins".
After these 3 actions are done on both "USB Sticks", switch back to the first "USB Stick".
Right-click on the empty space in the catalog, select "Catalog", then click "Open..." from the pop-up window.
Look for "Folder Path" in the window that opens.
Here is the error.
The other "USB Stick" path opens.
I did the same actions and took screenshots.
The error is clearly visible in the screenshots.

@Don, I think you will remember.
We had a similar incident with "Save Column Layout" and "Load Column Layout".
Between 04.07.2021 and 10.07.2021, we sent mutual e-mails on this subject many times.
If you deleted it I can repost it or if you want I can post screenshots of my last attempt showing the error.
You solved this problem exactly in the last step when you stated that you would give up.
I just wanted to remind you that you put a lot of effort into it.

I made a request titled "More practical use of tags" in the "Wishes" section.
In the section I mentioned, I made an additional request for the Catalog, due to the Tag and Catalog connection.
I thought maybe you would also fulfill my request that I mentioned while dealing with the "Bug".
Thanks.

Confirmed. Totally fascinating and unfixable, at least I don't see a way. All fixes of the last bug v22.00.0026 - 2021-07-10 13:33 are in place but this new bug still happens! Even if I overwrite the XYplorer.exe by a new version of XYplorer.exe the wrong path is still remembered and I cannot do anything to overwrite that wrong memory. Well, it is not memory, it is Windows that tries to be smart and overwrites the path that I correctly pass to the dialog -- a clear Windows bug.

BTW, it looks like XYplorer instances on all locations (hard disk, USB...) can cause an infection, but only XYplorer instances on USB drives can get infected. How weird can it get?

I mentioned our e-mails between 04.07.2021 and 10.07.2021.
The bug I noticed was related to "COLUMN LAYOUT".
You put a lot of effort and finally fixed the bug.
The last erroneous version was 22.00.0022.
It was fixed in version 22.00.0023.
There is no error again in the 22.80.0109 version that I tried last time.
As a result; There was no negative situation regarding "COLUMN LAYOUT".

However, in my last "Bug" notification, the situation is different in "CATALOG" as I explained with pictures.
This had not been interfered with before.

As I said above, regarding "COLUMN LAYOUT"; I did a new try and it didn't give any error.
In my last "Bug" notification, "USB Sticks" and XYplorer version I used in my test for "CATALOG" were not changed in my test for "COLUMN LAYOUT".
Everything was the same.
[USB Sticks, XYplorer version (20.80.0109) and same portable installation.]

As an extra precaution, I did not create a new "XYplorer-Portable" program.
I used the existing one; ie "CATALOG" and "COLUMN LAYOUT" were tested in the same portable program.

The test results of "USB Stick" and "Hard Disks" are the same.

SUMMARY:
There is a "Bug" in the attempt for "CATALOG".
No "Bug" in the test for "COLUMN LAYOUT".

There is no repetitive case for "CATALOG".
Because it was never fixed.
Both old versions and new versions have "Bug".

First of all, I would like to say that;
I don't know anything about programming.

My opinion is that;
You fixed the error in "COLUMN LAYOUT" and since this error does not repeat, you can also fix the error in "CATALOG".

I know that;
Nothing is too difficult for you.
Impossible things just take some time. :)
I don't think this is impossible either.
Because; I saw how hard things you did.

Thank you for your interest.

I tried it again with the column layout, and yes, it's fixed. Then I tried it again with the catalog, and I could not reproduce the problem anymore. Even after restart. :?

Anyway, there was a little difference between the column layout code and the catalog code. I removed that difference. So hopefully it's fixed in the next beta.

I did the same test with version 22.80.0120.
There is no problem.

After my insistence; Thank you for researching and solving the problem.

The program is not mine.
The program is yours.
But I also use it.
So thank you again.

I am sending a picture of a chocolate cake in an e-mail attachment.
Enjoy your meal.

Ha, thanks for the cake! And thank you for your insistence, you used cold, irrefutable logic, like Mr. Spock.

You are indulgent like Captain Kirk. :)
Thanks.

Note:
In my previous post, I misspelled the XYplorer version number.
The correct version number is 22.80.0120.
Therefore, I edited my post.
