Main Menu Toolbar Button

Post by WirlyWirly »

Not sure if this can be done, but with the new improvements to Dark Mode not affecting the Main Menu, It'd be nice if there was a toolbar button that when clicked showed a drop-down list with all the Main Menu options; File, Edit, View, Go, Favorite, etc...

A list similar to what you see when you click on the Views toolbar button, but of course populated by the Main Menu options.

I know we have a Main Menu Toggle button now, but this seems like a cleaner approach. Might be do-able through a script but haven't looked into it yet. Thoughts?

@Don: The other day I suggested (in an unrelated topic, I think you missed the text) that it might be an idea to run SC popupmainmenu when right clicking the new button.

I had thought about that but SC popupmainmenu pops a menu that has no fly-out submenus. There is no way to do that.

I have other plans. I will completely write my own main menu bar. It will effectively be a second toolbar above the current main toolbar, allowing you to add buttons to the right of the menu items.

That sounds interesting.

Sounds great and hopefully you can make it dark. :) I just received this via email today. https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insid ... -insiders/ A dark menu bar Notepad.

Too bad they won't let you in on their trade secrets especially since you're keeping hopefully thousands of customers on their Windows.

Code: Select all

v22.80.0004 - 2022-02-06 15:29
+++ Toolbar: Added support for "text buttons", i.e. buttons that display a text instead
of an icon, and added thirteen of such buttons. They can be used to emulate the
main menubar in the toolbar: File, Edit, View, Go ... etc., each pops one of the
      main menus on mousedown.
  :appl: :appl:

Maybe the font size could be made customizable at some later stage.

all these new buttons will crowd main toolbar and guess multi-bars are inevitable to come in future.

I also thought that it would be a completely separate toolbar?
Still, the new button options do look slick.

There will be a new completely separate toolbar. It takes a little preparation, but end of this week we should have 2 toolbars.

So when done, is this assumption correct? We'll be able to disable the original menu bar and have the original toolbar and the new toolbar (with the new menu items on it) enabled? If so, very cool! :appl:

That preview image of text buttons looks real clean, can't wait to see it rolled into the stable build later this month. I believe the Main Menu was the last major (that I've noticed) part of the UI that needed dark-mode adaption. Nice to see it all come together :appl:

There's only 5 buttons on my toolbar that I use regularly, so I'll be removing most of the buttons and just leaving a single tool bar with the Main Menu options and those 5 buttons.

Yep, all of the above assumptions (and praises) are correct.
