Double clicking address bar doesn't completely select active directory in certain conditions
Version: XYplorer Pro 22.70.0101
OS: Win 10 x64
Bug Description: On double click within the address bar, the active directory in focus does not become selected unless there's an absence of punctuation.
For example, if C:\Test\Downloads was in focus, double clicking within the address bar fully highlights "Downloads" as expected.
See following example images for further illustration.
Current Version, Bugged Behavior Example: https://i.imgur.com/zzaxH0p.png
Additional Bugged Behavior Example: C:\Test\XXX_XXXXXXXXXXX-XXXXX_XX_XX_XXXXXXXXX_(XXX_XXXXXXXX_XXX_XXXXXXXXXX)-XXX-XXXX-XXX [nothing before "-XXX-XXXX-XXX" highlights after double click]
Past Version, Working Behavior Example: https://i.imgur.com/lk3gV4r.png
I've looked through the settings and changelogs but cannot find anything relevant to this "feature" and I'm unsure exactly when this stopped completely working. Maybe early v22.xx builds.
I'm unsure what the exact conditions are for the address bar to completely select the active directory name in full, but only partial highlighting works as any "complex" directory naming is introduced.
I feel like the expected behavior should be to always highlight the entire active directory name that's in focus, but if it's not please let me know.
Let me know if further explanation and demonstration is required.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Double clicking address bar doesn't completely select active directory in certain conditions
It's probably this change you are talking about:
Sure, word boundaries are not folder name boundaries, of course. But to me this is an improvement. If I need the current folder name in the clipboard, there are other ways in XY.
Code: Select all
v22.40.0001 - 2021-10-27 19:00
% Word Break Style: Improved the automatic word boundary recognition (on
double-click, Ctrl+Arrow, Ctrl+BackSpace) in various text boxes including
Address Bar and script boxes.

Re: Double clicking address bar doesn't completely select active directory in certain conditions
Unfortunately, this means more work to copy the desired directory name with minimal effort as possible.
For your advice to work, I would need to constantly move up one directory level then manually highlight the folder name I want copied rather than being able to simply double click address bar + CTRL+C to copy the folder name of the current active working directory.
Do you have any other suggestions for how to copy the active directory name that's in focus?
Sure, you can manually select the entire name in address bar, but for users who require full location addresses enabled, this isn't ideal for situations where the ability to copy (then paste) the active directory name is going to be a repeated action.
Having to ensure the cursor's precise selection of the folder name is definitely a bottleneck when it means having to slow down in order to avoid over-selecting characters.
Would it be possible to implement the "old style" usability pre-22.40.0001 if CTRL key is held? As someone who misses the old functionality, it seems like a good compromise since it would satisfy any users who miss the previous ability to highlight the entire directory-in-focus-name on address bar double click but without losing the "improved automatic word boundary recognition" that's been added.

Right click the folder in the breadcrumb bar, select Copy Name.

Use a script for a user defined command (and assign a keyboard shortcut to it), a button, a catalog entry...
Then it shouldn't matter what you've focused or if you have a file selected or not...
copytext <curpath>;Then it shouldn't matter what you've focused or if you have a file selected or not...

I think for what the OP is trying to do, it would rather be
copytext <curfolder>;-

Re: Double clicking address bar doesn't completely select active directory in certain conditions
Very good solutions that I had not considered.
XYplorer's rich feature set still continues to impress me even after years of use.
These shortcuts will definitely be utilized if my aforementioned "CTRL + double-click in address bar to select active working directory name" request goes ignored.
Personally, the ability to double click the address bar then use the "copy" keyboard shortcut always felt quicker and more natural than having to solely rely on mouse actions to copy folder names but I suppose I may need to just get used to these alternate methods, which hopefully will become just as natural.
Thank you both.

Re: Double clicking address bar doesn't completely select active directory in certain conditions
I like this typical "XY-thinking" but in this case it's unlikely to happen for technical reasons.3QQPcr wrote: ↑01 Feb 2022 19:21 Would it be possible to implement the "old style" usability pre-22.40.0001 if CTRL key is held? However, a) since Explorer does it your way and b) if more users want it, I would just change address bar word boundary recognition to only recognize
\ and : as boundaries.FAQ | XY News RSS | XY X

Re: Double clicking address bar doesn't completely select active directory in certain conditions
For me, this would be great. I appreciate the consideration.
Would it be possible to implement this as an optional setting? You could even take it a step further and allow user defined boundaries ...
Or does it need to be either-or for technical reasons?
Out of curiosity, can you cite a current scenario where the "improved word boundary recognition" is better now than it was pre-22.40.0001?
As someone who hasn't noticed any advantage to the update, I'm just wondering what situations have benefited from it.

Well, it wasn't discussed here in the forum, so what happened is that I just went to abuse my infinite power did it for myself: I'm personally more interested in words than in folder names, so the new way suits me.

Not a problem, I was genuinely curious about why the change occurred and if it might also benefit me in some situations that I haven't considered since I don't think I've ever encountered an instance of this.
Quoted for visibility.
