Hello
Could someone tell me if XYPlorer would be suitable for managing a library of 45,000 sound sample files - aiff, wav, ogg, flac. I need the following:
- Fast file browsing
- One click play/preview
- Tagging
- Duplicate finding/removal
- Folder synchronisation
- Drag and drop into music software
- Maybe category management?
I see that some scripts are available which may be useful - would be good to know which ones.
I am coming from a background of using software designed for sample management - which in a Windows environment is limited, and the options are a little half-baked I feel. So just wondering if anyone else is using XY for sample management?
Many thanks!

Re: Sound sample management - A question
10 minutes in...awesome software! So...am running it concurrently alongside Cubase, Ableton Live. Have installed K-Lite Codecs
- How do I get aiff files to play one-click?
- If I install portable version into my sample folder (top level) will it remember tags, labels etc wherever it is installed (e.g., on another machine)
- Can I add to colour labels? New Colours?
Maybe I have found the solution to my sample management process!

As long as you copy everything over to the other machine, sure- If I install portable version into my sample folder (top level) will it remember tags, labels etc wherever it is installed (e.g., on another machine)
Up to 31 colors can be defined under- Can I add to colour labels? New Colours?
Configuration | Information | Tags | Customize up to 31 Label captions and colors

Yes, the folder will be self-contained - backed-up, copied intact with all files in place and XY installed to that same folder
Re: Sound sample management - A question
A little over 10 years ago I gave up my music production endeavours, not long after I was using Xyplorer to manage my samples/banks/presets, using Reaper as my DAW.
Its been so long I cant remember exactly what my workflow was, but just glancing at these old scripts it appears I would audition samples (by selecting previously tagged sounds by type, such as bass drum/snare etc). After gathering a bunch of sounds I wanted together as a bank by either copying to a folder, making hard/soft links or utilizing the catalog or even paper folders, I would then run a script on them to create a SFZ file it appears, but cant even begin to remember the details of this file, or what sampler I may have used it with. I'm not sure if thats about all I achieved or not because it all seems greek now having not known what I was after by scripting in xyplorer for sample management 10 years ago.
I threw together what I think was the most recent scripts I could find that I used for sample management. Surely its nothing you'll be able to just look at and be able to use right away, but it may give you some ideas or a later basis for some of the same productivity benefits I may have achieved using the awesome posibilities of xyplorers features.
Hope this might help you some. Dont give up streamlining your file management to accompany your music passions.
