Strange trigger area on Thumbnails for Mouse Down on Thumbnails and Icons feature

Post by undefiler »

Using stable again, so I haven't tested the beta, but for the "Mouse Down on Thumbnails and Icons" feature on thumbnails, the trigger area is peculiar:

When set to right-click (or the middle mouse button), the red areas are which can trigger the mouse down image preview:

When right-click also has the "stay up" feature enabled, the clickable area is even smaller (but only for right-click; middle mouse button continues to have the larger triggerable area above):

Why in both examples is there a triggerable area to the left and underneath the filename, I don't know. This of course makes using the feature hit or miss.

Thanks.

Partly confirmed.

1) The clicks near the caption are clearly nonsense. Fixed soon.

2) However, missing sensibility in the thumbnail area is probably a fata morgana; I assume your original is the same size as the thumbnail? In that case the pop-up is simply hard to see since it should be exactly over the thumbnail. (That is was not exactly over the thumbnail always is another side-effect of bug 1).

Original? The PNG is 68x68 PX, the Thumbnails view was set to 64x64. I don't think it's any kind of optical illusion because even when testing a larger image, the thumbnail's triggerable areas remain the same as stated in my original post.

When the image preview appears, it appears on my primary screen (XYplorer is on my secondary -- a bug I posted about earlier), so the preview is not obstructing the thumbnail, or even XYplorer, in any way.

For clarity, here are all my MDBU settings:

Apart from popping on the wrong screen the trigger area issues should be fixed in v22.60.0008. Right?

Tip: If you don't need it and want to avoid a 150ms delay before each blow-up then untick "Allow dragging items by the thumbnail".

Looks like the bug is squashed!

Appreciated, but since I often right-click and drag items, the delay is useful in my case. If the solution for "Allow dragging ..." was more like: if right-click mouse down and mouse up occurs within <150ms on a thumbnail, show context menu, else trigger MDBU, it wouldn't have to be an either-or situation between context menu and MBDU. Left-clicking works on a thumbnail with "On left mouse down" and "Allow dragging..." so why not for right-clicking? The "Allow [clicking and] dragging items by the thumbnail" setting would be even more useful if both left and right click worked.

Just a quirk that I noticed: Right-clicking to show a context menu on a thumbnail isn't possible (assuming my settings), unless you right-click and drag thumbnail to e.g. a blank area so that the "Copy Here", "Backup Here", etc menu appears, and then right-click the original thumbnail. This little trick is unlikely to be intentional, but if you really want to right-click something whilst using the settings shown in my screenshot, it's technically possible.

Makes sense. Next beta:

Code: Select all

+ Configuration | Preview | Mouse Down Blow Up | Mouse Down on Thumbnails
and Icons | Allow dragging items by the thumbnail: Now if this is ticked a
quick right-mouse-down-mouse-up on a thumbnail will show the shell context
      menu.
FYI, this is consistent with the ability to select an item by quick
left-mouse-down-mouse-up on a thumbnail if "Allow dragging items by the
      thumbnail" is ticked.
Conc. the quirk. Confirmed, but I won't touch this for now. :)

Nice improvement! :)

New issues have cropped up now though:
  • If the item isn't already selected (highlighted in blue), right-clicking won't work. Expected: right-click should select the item and then show the context menu.
  • If the context menu is being shown for an item and you left/right-click somewhere else, say on another item, the image preview is shown (briefly, or permanently if "Stay up" for right-click) for the currently selected item rather than selecting and showing the context menu for the next item.

Could improve that too. Almost. In the next version you still cannot go directly from one context menu to the next (the clicked item is not selected). The rest should work.

Confirmed that right-clicking on an unselected item selects it and shows the context menu.
