Very slow startup and network drives [solved] better defaults?

My startup was extremely slow. 33 seconds! Using the ctrl-shift-various information menu, I saw this entry
30,436 ms - Enumerating Network Servers
The problem was that one of the panes was on a network drive. When I made sure to have the active tabs in each pane not on a network drive when I quit xyplorer, startup time is somewhat better - 2,325 ms

So, first issue is that I don't think startup should wait for a network drive.
Oh, I see that there is "No network browsing on startup" that works. Still not optimal.
"Reconnect mapped network drives on startup" was already unticked.
When "No network browsing on startup" is ticked, startup is fast, but then clicking on the icon to see the network location fails. It says "Location currently not available"

Second, why is my network access so slow? In file explorer it is pretty much instantaneous. In XYPlorer it takes 30 seconds.

I finally found the setting that solves the problem:
Safety Belts, Network->Network: "Assume that servers are available", "Cache network servers". Now I don't need "No network browsing on startup", and startup is fast, and browsing network is fast.

All these settings are really hard to figure out! Why not have better defaults? What is the implication of ticking these two?

Very good point because these two settings are exactly what I am checking with new xyplorer install. Always.

1) "Assume that servers are available": If ticked you won't get a password prompt for servers that need one.

2) "Cache network servers": Only the cached servers will be visible. To show any new servers you need a manual refresh.

It seems that only ticking "Cache network servers" is necessary to speed up startup and browsing network drives. I'll try using just that.

BTW: it would be nicer if there was some feedback during startup. I click the icon, and for 30 seconds, nothing happens. I'd be much happier with a window that opened but was still busy, or a spinning wheel or anything.
