How to turn this feature "Preview" off completely

Could anybody tell me how to turn the feature "preview" off? Every time I open a file, the preview will be triggered, and cost me much time before opening the file.

Which preview? There are multiple ones...

In your case it's probably this setting:
Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show Hover Box

This brings up an interesting ancillary question. Is there a way to turn it off "temporarily"

Sure as heck would! Much improved over nothing at all

Adding a toolbar button will expose the Hover Box setting to SC button, which again exposes it to keyboard shortcuts via User / Run Script. And for some time now, toolbar buttons can also be added to the catalog. So if your toolbar is already cluttered, there are options ...

Might it be better, or in addition, to have a CID and possibly a get("#CID" ) to determine whether it's active or not?
