Branch view sort by type is broken

Post by Karn »

If I have this folder/file structure:

Folder1
        File1.txt
        File4.txt
Folder2
        File2.txt
        File3.txt

If I enable Branch View and sort by type, I expect to see:

Folder1
Folder2
File1.txt
File2.txt
File3.txt
File4.txt

This used to be the behaviour until recently. Now, this is what I see instead:

Folder1
Folder2
File1.txt
File4.txt
File2.txt
File3.txt

FYI, the Branch View secondary-sorts by full path (not by name) by default. What you had before was a bug that got fixed recently:

Code: Select all

v21.90.0009 - 2021-06-14 21:10
! Branch View: When sorted by Name the implicit secondary sort field should
be Path. Since 20130319 this was not the case when "Configuration |
General | Sort and Rename | Sort | Sort filenames by base" was ticked.
      Fixed.

That does not help, because I need the files to be sorted by type.

Well, it was a feature for me, because I have a legitimate use for that functionality. Any chance you could re-introduce it as an option?

?

They are sorted by type, you're only setting the secondary sort order (by name instead of path) with this...

That just shows the danger of using simple examples, the attached screenshot should make things clearer.

A assume he did not get the Shift + Left click. But that his screenshot doesn't show any column headers is disturbing. :?

What's actually disturbing is your unfamiliarity with your own product. What makes you assume that everyone uses details view, or that everyone wants to have to switch to details view, then shift-click on a column to do something as simple as sort by name, grouped by type?

Here's an animated GIF showing the problem, maybe it'll help those who find it hard to understand a simple screenshot.

Are you aware of the "General-> Sort and Rename-> Show sort headers in all views" configuration option?
