file rename - bad filename

Post by karbuff »

Ok, this is a very weird issue I never encountered before. Hopefully I'm missing something obvious here:

I have a folder e.g. "conx", which I am able to rename. But when I try to rename it "con" or "con.x" if fails with an error message (attached).

Steps to reproduce:
  • create folder "conx"
  • rightClick/rename OR F2 to "con"
  • error message
Version
XYplorer v21.50.0100

Because that name is reserved by Windows

I would understand if "con" was forbidden as a folder name, but "con.x" is forbidden, too - while "con x" is allowed. Seems not right....

Try to create it inside Windows Explorer, it doesn't work. It's not XY related

As already explained con is a reserved device name since the beginning of Windows.
This is also true for any extension you may add.
So it doesn't matter if you like it or complain. :)

Alright, windows explorer shows the same behavior, so this issue may be closed. Thanks.
