Office files can take 3-5 seconds to display, no matter what the file size.
Excel and Powerpoint files will always be extremely slow, Word may be a little bit faster for very small files.
All other file types (images, PDF) preview will display almost instantly.
I haven't changed any of the preview handlers, so am using all the defaults.
Also the context menu pop-up (right-click) takes several seconds to appear.
Hardware /opsys should not be the limitation: Intel Core i5, 64bit, 8Gb RAM, Win10.

Is XYplorers folder excluded from your antivirus solution?
Since when are Office previews slow, since the beginning?
Which XYplorer version?

Yes, XYplorer is excluded from the virusscan.
It's been slow on both items mentioned since the beginning.
I'm using the latest version: 21.50.0100
As an additional problem, sometimes the PPT files don't display properly, only the text is shown.
I could not notice any systematic as to when or when not PPT files misbehave in the preview.

Re: preview Office files and context menu popup very slow
XYplorers folder or XYplorer.exe itself?
The preview and the 64-bit context menu are different applications in XYplorers folder...
If unchecking
Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Context Menus | [ ] Hide shell extensions from shell context menu
doesn't help I'd try to make a clean uninstall of MS Office and reinstall it again...

I have excluded the whole Xyplorer folder from the virusscanner.
Also unchecked "Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Context Menus | [ ] Hide shell extensions from shell context menu".
Unfortunately no improvement.

Shouldn't it rather be check "Hide shell extensions..."?

Re: preview Office files and context menu popup very slow
OK, I have checked "hide shell extensions" but that didn't make a noticeable difference.
What is very interesting though is the following.
Out of frustration I've downloaded FreeCommander XE to play around with, as it also has a preview function.
When FreeCommander runs in parallel to XYplorer, suddenly the preview performance in XYplorer is hugely increased...
The context menu pop-up however remains slow.

Re: preview Office files and context menu popup very slow
As per your earlier suggestion, I have reinstalled the Office suite.
There is a slight improvement in performance of the preview, but the xlsx preview remains the slowest - taking at least 3 seconds to show.
Would appreciate any further suggestions to resolve the issue.

Re: preview Office files and context menu popup very slow
unfortunately it remains slow for all Office files even on a "fresh;" instance.
PDFs will display fast, PPTx will display moderate, and DOCx and especially XLSx still take 3 or more seconds.
sound and video files even fail with "cannot preview" message, even though they are on the enabled on the "previewed formats" settings.
