Filter Differences

I’m creating a matrix to better understand how and when to use the different filters that are available in XYplorer.

This is what I have so far.... (see image below)

I'd like some feedback from the community so that this chart can be a trustworthy reference.

After this validation, I'll make it available to everyone.

Here are some questions I have.

• Is my information correct?

• Is there anything else you think I should include that would be helpful for beginners?

• What are the main differences between Virtual Filters (VFs) and Power Filters (PFs)? I understand PFs are predefined VFs, but don’t we already have something similar with sticky entries in the [VFs MRU]?

• Is the Ghost Filter (GF) simply a Global Virtual Filter (GVF) that accounts for the tree as well (e.g., hides a folder in both lists and tree)?

• Can we consider the Live Filter a “shortcut” for doing a Virtual Filter on the fly (i.e., limiting content quickly and with minimal effort)?

• If I wanted to filter temp files (those starting with ~) from my view – across the board, would you suggest I use a GF or GVF? And why?

(However, it's "Visual Filter", not "Virtual Filter")

I've been using XY for a few months now and the only filter I use is the Live-Filter. Still didn't quite understand the rest of the filters or what a practical use for them would be, but this definitely helps. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks to everyone who responded and provided feedback.

I'll update the table to reflect Visual Filter (VF).

Personally, I tend to use Quick Search via the Address Bar and then fine-tune my list with the Live Filter Box (LFB).

I'm assuming LFB is commonly used. I'd be interested in hearing how the community uses some of the others.

I'm trying to maximize how I use the tool, and I hardly use any of the available filters (besides LFB).

Maybe if we get enough feedback, I can create another common for Scenarios or Use Cases where we outline how someone can take advantage of them.
