Enhanced Copying and Moving dialogs

Post by KyferEz »

The dialog that pops up when doing a copy or move is still the standard windows dialog. Now lets be honest: it is *really* basic and doesn't allow for pauses, handles errors by failing, etc.

I've used something called SuperCopier 2 for over a year now ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/supercopier/ or http://supercopier.sfxteam.org/modules/mydownloads/ or see a screenshot: http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/imag ... eSESns.jpg ), and it pretty much fills my needs, except in a few areas:
1) CRC checking of moved/copied files. Of course I've asked for CRC support from supercopier, but the project looks likes development may have stopped and I never got a response.
2) It does not "Catch" all moves and copies. I'm not sure why, but often with moves and occasionally with copies it simply doesn't work even though it's activated.

Hence, for important copies/moves (such as a move of my entire media collection to a larger disk or moving all of my work files) I only have one method: Using ViceVersa ( http://www.tgrmn.com ). Using ViceVersa is overly complicated for simply doing a move or copy, as it was designed for file synching. But it does support detailed move/copy information during the copy, and it does CRC checks on the copied files. See screenshots here: http://www.tgrmn.com/web/upgrade/screenshots/index.html and particularly the Copy/Delete Window. LOTS of information about the ongoing copies.

That said, there is one very important feature of Supercopier that must be in any copy/move replacement:
New copy processes based upon criteria. It's like this:
1. Copy 1: I select a bunch of files and copy them to destination 1.
2. Copy 2: I select some more files to copy to destination 2. A setting exists so that if set, Instead of automatically putting the copy2 files into the copy1 process, it asks if I want to create a new copy list. If yes, then the copies are simultaneous. If no, then it adds them to the existing copy list. VERY convenient for copying/moving lots of files around multiple hard drives all at once, especially if those drives are all USB externals.
3. Copy 3: I select more files and set them to destination 2 as well. Another setting exists that lets it ask me what to do (if the setting is checked) or it automatically adds it to the existing copy with identical destinations.

I would love to see a full featured solution, such as a supercopier replacement, built as an addon for XYplorer possibly only for paid members.

I know what I'm asking is possibly a LOT of work, but it will be a HUGH jump forward for XY.

Thanks!

Hi KyferEz,
I think you missed a similar post i made sometime back.
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... highlight=
But it seems like its a whole new software in itself this copy/paste thing. So I use supercopier when i have to, which is not so often. But surely, some basic enhancements like pause, queue etc can be useful since copy/paste is core of file managerment.

Just curious if this is similar to the TeraCopy integration that was asked for here:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=2012 ?
And also see this one which refers to SuperCopier with XY:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=1496
as does this one:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=1999

Just wanted to bring any prior discussions into this so we have some background...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

 I forgot to search. That bugs me... I always search first! Grr at myself :)

I didn't see mention of CRC checks...

Alternatively, if someone would simply take the supercopier code from sourceforge and hack away at it until it always works to capture the copy/move and would add CRC checks, I'd be VERY happy.

The freeware I use does the chekcing either with MD5 or CRC16. Too bad it's not in English  Seriously, isn't there anything available in English?

Anyone know what language supercopier is written in? I downloaded the source, and it's not in a language I've used before... Reminds me of both C and VB at the same time.

It's rather obvious, it seems! :P It's Delphi as shown on the main page http://sourceforge.net/projects/supercopier/ (that you gave us a link to in thread start post) in the Programming Language item, right?

LOL I scanned that as I figured it would be there, but didn't see it. Oh well. Having one of those off weeks I guess.
