Can someone tell me how to set columns to autosize automatically?
Yes, I know I can right click and choose autosize, but that only applies to the current view.
Yes, I know I can right click and define the current column sizes as the default, however, that seens to set the size of the columns to that specific size every time, even if longer filenames are used, which are then truncated.
What I am looking for is some intelligent autosizing that will set the column width to the maximum size of the largest filename... and do it every time no matter which folder I look at.
Possible? How?

I think Tools>Customize list>Autosize columns is what you are looking for.

Thanks, I thought there had to be a way.. I was looking all through configuration settings and couldn't find it.

Yes, finding something can be daunting. Thats why XY now has Help>List all commands. A very useful lookup feature.Pauleduc wrote:Thanks, I thought there had to be a way.. I was looking all through configuration settings and couldn't find it.
Re: Autosize columns automatically?
Is there anyway to set some rule for the maximum width of each column? I either have a too long or too short column for filename.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Autosize columns automatically?
thank you, I have tried that but it produces some undesirable effects, it's difficult to find an optimal setting because I use different monitors and it leads some unused space to the right of the pane. if I don't use this setting instead long filenames take all the space. Is there a way to turn it on only when the filename column is longer than a certain amount?

Well, try the next one, it's brand new:
Configuration | Colors and Styles | Styles | Columns | Autosize name column right margin
