Copy/Move here to new Subfolder
I often use "Copy Here to New Subfolder" and "Move Here to New Subfolder".
It would be great if these commands could be accessed through the File menu so that I also can assign them customized keyboard shortcuts.

Yes, good idea basically.
However, I don't like that the File menu gets longer and longer...
You can achieve the same actions via menu Edit | Copy To... / Move To... or by a UDC (relative paths are recognized, so simply enter the name of the subfolder).

Re: Copy/Move here to new Subfolder
But this is really not the same, because the M/C to new subfolder features ask for the name of that subfolder (with a default based on focus item), as the subfolder's name may change each time!admin wrote:You can achieve the same actions via menu Edit | Copy To... / Move To... or by a UDC (relative paths are recognized, so simply enter the name of the subfolder).
If you don't want to touch the File menu, how about a CKS/Misc then?

You are absolutely right, I didn't consider that.admin wrote: However, I don't like that the File menu gets longer and longer...
Yes, that would be the best solution - Misc or File, whatever ;-).jacky wrote: If you don't want to touch the File menu, how about a CKS/Misc then?
For the users who want to use the mouse to access these commands there is no advantage if the commands also can be found in the File menu. For the users who want to use the keyboard it's great to access them through customized keyboard shortcuts but they also have no advantage if the commands are included in the File menu.

Re: Copy/Move here to new Subfolder
Not quite the same, no. I often need to move files into a (new) subfolder, which name is based on at least one of the files being moved.admin wrote:Ok, not the same but similarAnd UDC lets you pre-define the name.
Using the right-D&D I get asked for the folder's name, with a default based on the focused item. This is exactly what I need.
There's no other way to achieve that as of now, because :
- Move To: doesn't based it's default on focused item
- UDC: would imply I always use the same new/sub-folder's name, which I don't.
Another way could be to add it to the File menu, but in a new submenu along with all other Move/Copy operations ?

Re: Copy/Move here to new Subfolder
I thought about that, and then I asked myself: why are Copy/Move commands in File and in Edit??? I did not like that question so I stopped thinking about it.jacky wrote:Another way could be to add it to the File menu, but in a new submenu along with all other Move/Copy operations ?

It is a good question but I guess to change is a big job. I mentioned this before in another post as there does seem a lot of options to do things thus v10!I thought about that, and then I asked myself: why are Copy/Move commands in File and in Edit??? I went for the CKS/"Miscellaneous" solution. And I like it! Get ready for:graham wrote:dmin wrote:It is a good question but I guess to change is a big job. Maybe, an interim solution, the specific copy/move ops be put in a dedicated menu to relieve the File/Edit.

I like it. Should have done it right away!bergfex wrote:Nothing important, but sometimes it would be very handy to have the same functionality in "Copy/Move Here to New Subfolder" as in "New Path", i.e. to be able to define multi-level paths (Move Here to New Subfolder: folder/subfolder/subsubfolder).

Yeah, on that note I'd love that feature on the Move/Copy Here As feature myself, so I could both move to a new folder (created on the fly) and at the same time rename whatever item I'm moving/copying !admin wrote:I like it. I do that on occasions, and always have to resort to use Move/Copy Here to New Folder and then rename manually, so that would save me some time
