How did I duplicate contents of a folder?

Post by beethoven »

I just noticed that a folder on the network that I access daily to save files to has been modified.
It is set up like this

/Downloads
- X Downloads
- A
- B
- C

Each folder A, B has dozens of files, C only a few.

Today I notice that A,B, C appear twice with full contents. As this folder is on a network, I checked the original drive contents and the the duplicated folders do not show up there.

I suspect that I clicked or doubleclicked something by mistake that would have caused this but I certainly do not remember any clear cut procedure a la cut, copy or transfer here.

Any idea how this might have happened? I just tried to delete one file in one of the duplicated folders but this caused this file to be deleted in the other folder too.

Just as an update - I closed down XY and restarted the program. The duplicated folders are now gone. Everything is back to normal except for the one file that I deleted in one of the duplicated folders, this file is still gone.

This was obviously a display problem. Windows/NTFS/any file system does not allow parallel duplicates. So if you see 2 same-named items side by side, it must be an error in display. A refresh (F4/F5) should correct the situation.

I've never seen this error since years. If you succeed to repeat it, please let me know how.

Ok, I try to pay attention if it does happen again (though I have never seen it before and don't know what I did at the time. I suspect I doubleclicked being impatient but cannot be sure). Did not know about the F4 function but shutting XY down and restarting solved the issue for me too.
