Some of my .psd files won't preview. Those that do show an embedded .jpg image thumbnail.
I have .psd files created on the same day (and most likely using the same settings) where some will preview and some won't.
DOpus previews all of my .psd files, no matter what.
Any ideas?

Re: Some .psd files won't preview
DO shows the embedded .jpg image thumbnail as well in all cases?

DO doesn't mention a thumbnail at all, or any embedded preview. It just shows the preview with some basic file information (dimensions, color deptth, size).
In DO, if the .psd file started out as a digital image, then when you hover the mouse over the file entry in the list, you get a preview plus the metadata from the digital camera that took the picture. Very cool.
(But not as cool as mouse-down, blow-up in XY).

But you can at least infer from the size of the preview whether it is the embedded thumbnail or whether DO is able to to read PSD files natively (or does exploit Photoshop as reader???).Jeff Bellune wrote:DO doesn't mention a thumbnail at all...
If you tell me, yes, it is an embedded thumbnail, then I will have some work to do, and I will find out what's going wrong.
If you tell me, DO can read PSD files that have no thumbnail embedded, then I give up here and now, and say bye-bye

The psd preview in DO matches the size of the preview window. It functions at a zoom level of "fit-to-window". Bigger preview window = bigger preview.
There are also zoom controls for the psd previews in DO, so I doubt that DO is using a thumbnail preview.
DO's psd preview is fast, so I don't think that they are relying on Photoshop. But I do have PSCS3 installed, so maybe there is a tie-in somewhere between DO and PS.
Hope this helps,
-Jeff

Helps... well, unless there's some DO/PSCS3 thing going on it helps me to acknowledge my inferiority.Jeff Bellune wrote:The psd preview in DO matches the size of the preview window. It functions at a zoom level of "fit-to-window". Bigger preview window = bigger preview.

I just checked Explorer (thumbnail view), and it seems to behave exactly as XY. If XY finds no embedded thumb, Explorer does not either: no thumbnail.
So DO does something quite nice here... maybe I should try a new file manager.
