Hover Box optional in Thumbnail Views

Post by klownboy »

Hi Don, about a year ago I mentioned in Tips and Questions https://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopi ... =3&t=20019 the possibility of a option concerning the display of Hover box when in a thumbnail gallery mode. At that time I thought the option would only be in a gallery type mode (no captions etc), but the more I've been using thumbnail mode lately (more trips - more photos), I wish we could have an option which flat out avoids the hover box completely in any thumbnail view regardless of captions being on or off or any other options. I think it might be a simpler option to implement than what I previously mentioned.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Hover Box, it's a great feature and want to keep it for non thumbnail views and without having to use the shift key. However, I really don't need to see it quite annoyingly popping up everywhere in views designed for image viewing (via MDBU and other methods). So the option would be simply a tick box option in Configuration > File Info Tips > Hover Box > Select Controls > Thumbnail/tile views - Checked or unchecked. You could possibly still show the Hover Box in the thumbnail views if the shift key is held even with this new option checked. Thanks.

Makes sense. Would that also include the Tiles views?

I don't use tile view much, but I don't see why not as long as it's optional not to such the hover box in thumbnail/tile views. Thinking about later, I would have been fine if there was an command ID and get(CID) to determine the state of hover box to turn it off and on depending on its state since I normally enter my photo folders via a script. So in that case, ShowHoverBoxImage=1 in XYplorer configuration would be essentially be cycled on and off. I suppose the option to have it off in thumbnail or tile view is probably cleaner, simpler and more usable to everyone.

Hi Don, thanks. It seems to be working fine though I noticed something odd - after selecting (clearing the tick) for Tiles and thumbnails in Show Hoverbox > "Select context...", the tick mark is back again when I return to check on it even after saving or saving and exiting. Probably due to the fact that you had them all checked on the upgrade it's continuing to do that (i.e., recheck the options).

Edit: Don I just noticed that if I have the option to only show File Info tips when the shift key is held down (and Show info tips only when hovering over the file icon is also checked), that when Show Hover box is not ticked for thumbnails/tiles, show hover box when the control key is held down does not work. Possibly due to an interference with info tips with shift key held down. Shouldn't I get Info tips with shift key held down and Hover Box with control key held down?

1. Yes, bug. Fix comes.

2. Works here. You have to hold Shift AND Ctrl, of course.

OK thanks Don all set. The option for File Info Tips - "Show Info tips only when hovering file icon" really doesn't apply in thumbnail views because Info Tips are shown over the filename. I'm sure that's intended. Even if you have "Show file icon on thumbnails" ticked, the Info tip takes place on the file name, not the icon. Don't get me wrong that's the way it should be. Maybe a tool tip for "Show Info tips only when hovering file icon" could state the difference in a thumbnail view "except in thumbnail view, info tip shown hovering file name." No big deal obviously, just a thought.

Well, I don't want to deprive the user of the joy of finding out herself. :)
