Update:
Or maybe just add a new menu-item on the context menu:
Assign to UDC with sub menus or popup
This is a concept idea which could possibly help trigger an idea.. The idea is to speed up the identification of choice. Each major menu is restricted as practical to about 6 entries so only the major options are shown. Further options are abbreviated as a guide of availability.Yes, would be practical, but the menu is already too big. I would welcome an idea to make it shorter!
I like the idea of reducing them to 6 entries, that's very "handy for the eye". But it would slow down many actions, since you'd have to navigate through submenus very often.graham wrote:admin wrote:

Selecting the main action cascades, as now the options to refine further choice.
Most options are seen as available in the short list horizontally! Spacing makes this clearer)
Thus in the case of File menu
Open [Selected (ENTER), Arg, Foc (CTL ENTER)]
Copy [To >, Here Cpy, Here As (CTL+S), Suff Nu (CTL+D), Suff Dt, Suff Dt Mod]
Move [To > ]
Delete [Del (DEL), Del No Rcy, Del skp lck]
Rename [Ren (F2), Ren Spc >]
Misc [Clip >, Bck Up>, Prop, Prev, Settings>]
--------
Thus in the case of Edit menu
Edit [Cut, Copy, Paste, Pst Spcl >]
Move/Copy [Move To, Copy To, Bckup To)
New [New >, Items >, ShrtCt, Path]
Select [Slct All, DeSlct All, Inv Sel, Sel Fltr, Sel Types, All Fls]
Find [Files, Now, Rpt lst srch, Srch Tmplts, Show Itms in Br]
-----------
Hopefully meaningful abbreviations show the further options with > indicating even more at that level
The idea is to make the menu clean and simple and make choice easy. As we all read right to left, the further options become immediately clear.
Yep, that's a good idea. One addition/question: you mean: "UDC opens with a new command with "C:\Program Files" prefilled in location field.", right?serendipity wrote:Well, since there is already a UDC toolbar button where one can right click to navigate to "go to", "open" etc, why not trigger a prefilled path if there is anything selected in the list?
I mean, if i select program files in the list and right-click on UDC button and click Go to, then UDC opens with "C:\Program Files" prefilled in location field.
Yes I can see this (and change is not popular) but I think in reality the fact it increases the depth of menus that doesn't matter!I like the idea of reducing them to 6 entries, that's very "handy for the eye". And my original point was that the tree's context menu was too tall, not the main menus. Same here: smaller menu, longer ways to go. It's a trade off.
Yup, a new command with prefilled location field (of the selected item in list).admin wrote:Yep, that's a good idea. Code: Select all
+ Toolbar | Manage User-Defined Commands | Context Menu: now, when holding CTRL on "New...", the Clone field is preset to the currently selected item.serendipity wrote:I thought Ugus' original request was have an easy way to prefill all possible location fields like:Code: Select all
+ Toolbar | Manage User-Defined Commands | Context Menu: now, when holding CTRL on "New...", the Clone field is preset to the currently selected item.
GoTo - UDC
Move To - UDC
Copy To - UDC
Backup To -UDC
Ofcourse, you included "New" later so it applies there too.
Edit: I mean probably you can extend this to all fields that require location, or?
