I also would say: do nothing. Xplorer² and of course Internet Browsers handle it this way and it works well.

Sounds great! :P

:D Sounds like an ideal solution to me! That way, you can go either way...GREAT idea! But my toolbar is getting a bit full already and I don't have any option to get a larger screen on laptop, so at some point, I think a two line TB may be needed as option...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Self-discipline, man... Tip: the toolbar of a Zen master has no more than 7 buttons!

I agree that this sounds like a great solution!

This addition will make almost as much improvement for my workflow as when I first began using XY!

Wow, Don's idea of global vs tab-wise history with diiferent buttons and KSs are the way to go.

But there needs to be a solution for fitting in all toolbar buttons. Personally i dont mind a separate row for TBs. Also considering the fact that TBs might get bigger in size this will be a bigger issue. How about just one row for TB and extender or scroll like thing for addditional buttons? hmmm not sure what others think.
j_c_hallgren wrote:...but that also implies that if you close that tab by error, how do you get that history back? Hummmm....
How about XY keeps a history of last 5 or 10 closed tabs? A TB would be great for this.

Yeah, I try it every day to improve my self-discipline (no, not only in conjunction with XYplorer), but usually I fail miserably.

Like History > Recently closed tabs in Firefox? Sounds very interesting, but I don't know if it is too much work to implement or too bloaty. So Don, what do you - our Zen master - think?

 I totally agree with minimizing TBs but if you can make them scrollable (horizontally ofcourse) at single button press then that would be cool.

Update: I shoud be more clear, i definitely need more than 7 buttons but usually not more than one complete (without AB) row of TBs. I would prefer instead of a second row and scrollable one row.

Well, I'm not sure about that one; Zen master, not if we're a mouse guy, not a keyboard one.

I know it can't be done easily, but if we ever get to be able to have the toolbar on up there on the menubar, we'll be able to have quite enough buttons with no worries, given how it would only fill some currently wasted/unused space... Then with custom buttons, it's a must-have can't-live-without killer! 8)

Only 7 buttons? Ha! I counted and I've got 30 right now...and it's only limited cause I needed some room for an address bar! Now, in IE, I use the Google TB so I have two rows there, but I'm also able to make use of the menubar area to put my AB, so that allows more room...if that were possible in XY, then I'd likely have enough TB room on one line....

The idea of a scrolling TB could make sense, but I'd rather see it like the excess icons on Quick Launch are handled (or Links in IE), in that a ">>" allows one to get a menu of the others...

Was thinking after I last posted: Would it be possible to have a drop-down back/fore history (vertical arrow) as we do now, but one for each of both global and tab? Because personally, I'd rather have an extra set of those half-width icons only, than a full back/forward arrow set for tab history...that way, if I wanted to go back using tab history, I'd have to use the drop-down, but it would still be convenient via mouse at least.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

What about putting the address bar on the menubar. This would leave a complete row for all tool buttons. I guess difficult but less so than having tool buttons.

I just tried it with Firefox and it worked. What a flexible application.
But I don't know any other application - not to speak of file managers - which can handle it that way. So even if it is possible it would mean a lot of additional work for Don, something he already has plenty of...

No I think this is as had (if not more), given that the menubar isn't a control written by Don so he can't really do whatever he wants with it.

Plus, I do not use the AB so that's no good for me ;)

Okay. Now let's calm down a bit. :) My lists for 6.70 and 6.80 are full. I might be able to squeeze it into 6.90. 7.00 is full anyway because of Undo.
