Yep, since 1 hour. I was personally informed by the reviewer.Fedorov wrote:Did anyone else know that this was on there?

Re: XYplorer SoftPedia review
Actually this review inspired me to take a somewhat more aggressive stand on dual pane and some other of those notorious file management features... check out the bottom of http://www.xyplorer.com/Fedorov wrote:Did anyone else know that this was on there?

I'm not sure if that will tempt users, or drive them off.admin wrote:Actually this review inspired me to take a somewhat more aggressive stand on dual pane and some other of those notorious file management features... check out the bottom of http://www.xyplorer.com/

Re: XYplorer SoftPedia review
I don't know about new comers to XY either, but I think I like it... No, XY is not just yet another file manager - or dual-pane-clone - like the millions out there, XY is a different kind of file manager, one that's been think differently with efficiency, simplicity, power and ease of use in mind, not just that little group of stupid features that have nothing to do with serious file management...Gandolf wrote:I'm not sure if that will tempt users, or drive them off.
(note that's only a personal opinion, and don't try to explain why DP/etc are actually good/linked to FM, I don't care!

I think people don't look for another kind of file manager, they look for somthing they think they need. And if they think they (could) have a need for DP, and then just must read, they are wrong using XY - they will leave. Or what do you think?
And the only way you could try to make them stay would be, to give them some idea, why they would not need these functions, if using XY...

Suggested rework:
No dual pane, no internal file packer, no FTP function, no file splitter, no duplicates finder! Many of these these features are better provided by a dedicated auxiliary program rather than clutter XYplorer with bloat. In the case of dual pane, XYplorer provides much greater flexibility using Tabs - try it and convert to the more efficient way of file management.
I would change this as the tone does seem wrong for those who do not appreciate Don's humour! No dual pane, no internal file packer, no FTP function, no file splitter, no duplicates finder! If you are looking for these features, go elsewhere. You'll find them in almost any alternative file manager out there.

Graham is right!
(And if it's humor, it's a black subtype
)
But before saying what should not be realized in XY for keeping it (s)light (I think, better than "bloating" here?) what *can* be done by XY: replace some functions people will expect from DP by others of XY, as tabs.
And if DP really isn't wanted: delete it from roadmap?

I think Graham's rework would be better as it gives the same basic message but in a friendlier fashion...I believe Don's vers would cause some potential users to just go elsewhere without even looking at XY, and that isn't a good thing, as one dissatified user can cause much more damage than 10 happy users can improve things...
And even though Don currently doesn't really support the concept of DP, of the items listed, it seems to be the one that would be most compatible with the XY concept of lightweight software...FTP and such, to me, definitely belong in a separate applic, but DP is within the File Mgmt scheme.

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Thanks for all your suggestions to remove my "humour".
I rephrased it a bit, and indeed I think it's better now.

Yes, it is...however, I'd suggest a minor tweak: Put the "no zzzz" in question format, like "No FTP function? No file splitter?"...admin wrote:Thanks for all your suggestions to remove my "humour".![]()

I think that reads a bit better, as that would match what the reader is thinking at that point...
