I was reading the FAQs and came across the part about excluding the program from Windows Defender. I opened the Control Panel as instructed, but did not find an entry entitled "Windows Defender" or "MSE". I opened the Security Center, but didn't see either one there. I opened the Add or Remove programs applet, but didn't see either one there.
Does this mean that I do not have those programs installed and so don't need to worry about this?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. This was on Win XP. I've now added that to my sig.

I don't think there's a Microsoft security solution (or at least not a supported one) for XP, meaning you can disregard that part of the FAQ.
