Open web page directly in Info Panel? How?

Post by j_c_hallgren »

Ok, so this may be obvious but I'm not seeing it... :oops:

I know now that if I'm previewing a HTML file that contains a URL, and I click on that URL, it will open within the Info Panel also, instead of separate browser...but if I put the desired URL in the Catalog, it seems that I'm stuck with using browser instead of XY...so...is there a simple way to get a URL to open directly in the IP?

The reason this would be handy is: It could be an nice and easy way to have my blog open within XY!
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

As far as I can see it can't be done from the Catalog but

I just set up a url called Blogspot in XYPfolder which will remain even after XY updates and provides a wish I mentioned before of having a quick an easy access within XYplorer of the change history.

This is very handy if you try to follow changes steps to reproduce in XY and not having to switch from browser to XY. Maybe not what you had in mind but it gives me what I wanted - thanks

Now if Don were to pass this url as part of his update then it would be available to every user with no set up.

Yea, I set up the following small ".HTML" file which may be similar to what you did, maybe?

Code: Select all

<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>
<body>
<a href='http://xyplorer.blogspot.com'>XYplorer blog</a>
</body>
</html>
And that initially just shows as a link, but will show my blog when clicked on...I was hoping there was a direct way instead of this work-around.

Update: Ok, now I see a slightly better way: Created a ".url" shortcut file containing the following

Code: Select all

[InternetShortcut]
URL=http://xyplorer.blogspot.com/
Modified=B0DE41F62E27C801E3
which goes directly to the blog...I've not used that file type that I recall, as I never saw a good reason to, as I have all my "Favorites" within my IE/FF sessions...however, even this method takes some additional setup compared with having a way to get there directly via a catalog item entry, if that were possible...

It would be cool if the blog were available via the built-in links from the "Help>XYplorer on the web", but those links open in a browser, so now I wish there could be an option as to whether to do that, or use the Info Panel instead.

Right, this seems to give you what you want.

Set up a file Blogspot.url in say XYplorer folder though it could be anywhere.
Set it's properties to http://xyplorer.blogspot.com/

add a copy (D&D) into a Catalog category.

Set it's properties to Go to location

Click on this will give you the Blogspot in the preview in XYplorer.
