Feature request : Add background color to color filter

Post by blackbit »

Currently, I think the color filters are nice, but sometimes they don't catch the eye fast enough; or you just look over them. Background colors are more eye-catching, and therefore not easy to miss.

Bold?

Maybe being able to "bold" files would be nice too ;-)

I don't know about bold, especially sice it would/could break the layout (bold font are usually larger), but background color could be nice indeed. Although it would "break" the zebra effect... :?

Zebra striping is an optional setting, though, and not everyone uses it.

I would definitely take advantage of background coloring if were implemented.

I'd definitely love it if this software would get background coloring in the color filters! I agree that for the text alone, the coloring is a bit too subtle at times, and it's kind of limited in diversity. With backgrounds added, it might spur more different color combinations.

And no, I don't use the zebra striping effect. I've tried it, but for me it became too distracting.

Well, I just tried it with xplorer² and it really would be a nice feature (e.g. to use bold to highlight folders).

Fav folders are bold in XY by default. Or?

I meant to use bold face for all folders (using /d) in the list.

That's - of course - just the way I would use it. You could use bold face to highlight whatever you want.

I made the experience that if I have a large list of files and folders and don't have "Sort Folders Apart" checked, it would be very handy to have such a feature to distinguish files from folders more easily. Sure, it is already possible to color folders (using /d) but I would prefer to use these color filters exclusively for files. For me bold face or background colors just seem to be more suitable for folders.

But again, everyone could use these features - if you decide to implement them - the way she/he wants, it just would give the user more possibilities.

I agree, but for the reasons jacky (font width) mentioned, adding bold to the list would be a lot of work. No time now.

Sorry, I really didn't want to distract you from the important things (scripting, undo, etc.) and I think I wouldn't have much chance in trying so because ultimately it's of course always YOU who decides what is worth to be implemented and gets along with the ZEN philosophy.

It wasn't more than a comment on a requested feature which I think to be useful in my everyday work.

We are all aware that even for you the day only has 24 hours and there are also rumours that you eat and sleep and do some other unproductive things. So we don't expect you to perform miracles (although there are some features in XYplorer which really... ).
