:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Screen doesn't repaint, application freezes for many seconds

Post by jerobbins »

I tried a backup of about 60 GB worth of VMs and ISO files from a local hard drive to an external USB device. While XYplorer was backing up large files, the screen would freeze and the application wouldn't respond. Even when the screen was repainted, the app frequently didn't respond to a keypress or mouse click on a menu.

After the backup was completed XYplorer was functional and responsive.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 64-bit with all security patches. I tested with XRplorer 6.40.0026. I tried the same thing with 6.40.0020 and it eventually hung.

I have occasionally experienced the same thing when XYplorer does some really lengthy operations.

Don,

Is it something you can do to make XYplorer more responsive during these operations?

EDIT:

Running Windows XP SP 2 (English version) updated with latest patches

When you say "backup" do you mean XY's "backup" or a normal "copy"?

From within XYplorer, I had a folder on the USB drive open in one of the tabs. I copied several different folder trees to a new "Backup" category. While that category was selected, I chose Backup To and selected the open tab.

Thanks, I'll check that.

General tip: XY is basically single-thread and multi-instance, so even if it was responsive you could not do anything until the process is finished. However, you can always open a new instance of XY and go on working with it. Have one XY sweating in the back, and another one for you manual work...
